hi
guys
I would like to hear your recomendations about this:

I will be shooting this winter in NYC,with a dvx100a,(first feature)
but i want to know , what kind of considerations about the camera.
or accesories should i use?

like rain slick, with special padding?

how do i avoid the camera body to freeze up?

should i wait 20 min before to bring the camera indoors? condensation?

whats the limit in cold weather? temperature?

thanxs so much guys..... barry any recomendations???

if your going to have your camera out in the rain or snow for that matter I would hope you have a rain cover on your camera and make sure its sealed pretty good too.

Camera body freezing up? How long are you planning on being outside and how cold are the temp's going to be?

I can't speak for our DVX cameras but I just did a shoot today in this snowstorm that hit the Philly area and my BetaSX camera was outside from 430am till about 930am. I never brought in, why? I didnt want my lens or viewfinder fogging up from the temperature change from cold to a warm van.

Some people carry a blow dryer (heat gun, hair dryer) its the same thing with them and use it to help with the condensation. On the Betacamera I would take the viewfinder off and hold it up to the vents and blow hot air out and that will clear up the viewfinder eye piece.

I have also heard of people wrapping the camera to help insulate the camera but you won't be able to use your flip out monitor or have access to the controls.

If you have your camera in a case, keep it in the case when bringing it in and out of drastic temp changes. If you keep it in the case for 20 minutes or so when you have a temp change, it should allow it enough time to warm up or cool off. Also, a rain cover is a good idea. Unless its super super cold you shouldn't need an insulating cover. It might be a good idea to bring along a moving blanket though (the kind used for moving furniture) to put over the cam when you aren't using it to keep it protected....

WOW that is cool! I didnt know something like that existed! I am guessing those heat packs are reusable and not like the kind you stick in your gloves?
