Filming a play

Im filming a play tonight, and would like to know what good settings are for vivid color in low light settings. I do not want any noise and do not even want to touch the gain. just straight up scene file settings like woah... and such

Aaron...

Re: Filming a play

I'd probably go 60i, with the matrix to normal, gamma to normal (maybe high, for those hot stage lights) and not worry too much about blowing out unneccesary parts of the frame. It's live, so it's more important that you capture the visual information, and that the actors can be seen. If you expose properly all should be well

Re: Filming a play

Aaron, shoot it in normal mode, no 24p. I know some plays can be a bit dark and 24p needs alot of light. Hope this helps dude. :)

Re: Filming a play

Not only that - but with live performances, 60i looks more "live". the 24P motion makes it look more like a movie, which may not be wanted here in general.

So not just from a n exposure standpoint, from an aesthetic standpoint, too - I think 60i is the way to go :)

Re: Filming a play

sorry if this is a stupid question but to shot in 60i you turn the camera mode to OFF right? :-/

Re: Filming a play

Aaron-
1. I was wondering how far from the stage you will be?

2. And are you shooting a show performance or a dress rehearsal?

3. And what are you doing for sound?

Just curious. I've only been able to shoot two full stage plays with my DVXa, and on one of them, something got set incorrectly on the sound/mic levels and I had to use the audio from my second camera (not a dvx).

Re: Filming a play

I shoot a lot of plays. 60i gives me the best quality.

Re: Filming a play

Aaron, make sure there is permission to video the play. We were booked to video one but had to cancel because the school couldn't get a release for "Fiddler on the Roof". They told them they could video the rehearsal but not in costumes.

Especially if you plan to sell it to the public or whatever organization would sell them.

'the whoa' setting should be Panny's new F7. for your indecisive shooter.
