filming a object that is dropping?

Well i want to film a computer monitor that is dropped from a considerable height.
I obviously do not have a high speed cam and will not achieve that extreme slow motion i would like to, so what is the closest i can come too with the DVX100b
(in settings i mean of course.... pal if possible!)
Cheers

this is what i would do, but i'd encourage you to test it out first.
first shoot at progressive advanced and set the shutter speed at 1/500 or higher...
now take that footage and use twixtor, motion perfect, or some similar program and you should have astounding results.
reason these programs basically morph one frame into the next so you can acheive extreme slow motion if you wanted, but you need to have a clean image. setting the shutter speed higher will record less blur. now granted you can record at 50i and maybe acheive the same...that i haven't tried, but so you can see an example of what i'm talking about...

Scene 22

What timeline will this be going into? If its for 24pa footage, just use 1/500th as per novelt or even 1/1000th if you have the light for it. Then shoot in 60i and drop that into your 23.98 fps timeline and slow the footage to 60%.

60% will jostle your footage if you shot in 60i, won't it?... you need to bring it down to 40%. that is, according to barry's book. not sure with the diff shutter speed... just a thought. -- it might not, but if you are only going to slow it down to 60% why not shoot in 30p?

aaand i just read the pal thing... forget shooting 30p and 60i. -- if this is going onto a 25fps timeline then shoot in 50i and slow footage down to 50% -- if onto a 30fps then slow your footage down to 60% (which i think is what ncje was saying, only she put 60i instead of 50i) and lastly, if 24fps timeline then slow down to 48%

i might be crazy. and i've never edited pal. (which is why these timelines might be totally wack)
but mathematically, this makes the most sense to me.

50i makes perfect 50% slow motions, especially with the right tools.

There's a good tutorial of deinterlacing to 50fps here: http://www.100fps.com/

Gosh it's nice to live in a PAL land, everything is so simple wihtout all the 24p hassle :D

Slow it down by 40% - bring it down to 60% equals same thing right?

Sorry Ogrus I missed the "PAL" part. Yes so 50i at 50% speed is perfect.

No... if shooting at 60i, slow the footage down TO 40% to achieve smooth slo mo.

PAL = shoot at 50i and slow down TO 50%.

Thnak you very much ladies and gentleman for all the good advice. I will post results and let you see what you think
