Filming a Marathon...

I have a wheelchair that I have someone push and I get great shots of the joggers from the back and the side but I need to find a way to shoot them from the front, tracking with them from the front. They jog on the sidewalk. Anybody have any ideas?

Check out our doc. "Runners High" at www.runnershighfilm.com for many training and marathon running shots.
We've filmed for 6 months (DVX100) a program in Oakland, CA that trains inner city high school students to run the LA Marathon.
We've tried many combinations: cars (too big and clumsy), running together (too shaky), steadicam (almost dead after 20 min.), etc...
Bicycle carts seemed to be our best shot, but regular ones would not hold my weight (190lbs), camera and some gear and they're not very stable.
After some research I've found a guy in Oregon who custom build carts for teenager disable kids. It was quite, stable, strong and small enough to get very close no matter where our runners happened to be.

During the training months, we followed our characters on trails, parks, city streets, bridges pulled by a brave and strong friend and bicyclist (who himself was training for a triathlon).

We filmed the marathon with 3 cameras. I've sticked with the cart which allowed us a much better and early access, in addition we used 2 motorcycles-camera-cart (Hollywood style) which were allowed in the race after mile 10.
The organization is very careful and cautious with motorized vehicles on the course.

And finally, most long distance runners run too slow to be followed by a regular motorcycle.

Sooo...we are renting a golf cart and they are delivering it and picking it up. I think it will cost about $170 for the day.

Oh, that sounds interesting! But here some questions:

It is battery driven, right? Does it go all the 40 (or 40 and something) kilometers of the marathon with one single battery load? Do you need an extra permission to use it on a public road?
