GH4 FilmConvert Releases V-LOGL Profile

Wow! You can still see the magenta/green blocking issue when you're looking for it but FilmConvert seems to have done the best job possible for internal 8-bit V-LOG. Definitely using this over anything else (as always - FilmConvert has always been my top pick). Now to play with some externally recorded footage...

This profile does work nicely. Whatever magenta/green blocking is still visible becomes a non-issue once grain is applied. Still, I can't shake the vague perception that my images are lacking in detail when working with V-log in 8-bit, compared to other profiles.

They are - V-LOG 8-bit really is something to be avoided. It's made for external 10-bit recording and shines beautifully in that application, but if I have to shoot internally, I'm probably going to avoid it.

Can't say for the GH4, but on the DVX200, using VLOG-L bypasses pretty much all in-camera processing -- including sharpening. You may need to add a bit of post sharpening to your footage to get it comparable to what the other profiles deliver.

You can adjust NR and sharpening in the GH4 v-log. It's not sharpness per-se, it's an overall thin feeling I can't put my finger on. It's subtle, but it's there.

Seems to be the same with the GH4.
Footage looks much less destroyed (processed) than other presets which is nice. :)

Film Convert doesn't do a REC 709 LUT for GH4. Its meant to take your rushes and adjust them to the base colour values of particular film stocks. Then grade to taste.

FilmConvert takes the green down a lot but that also makes the skin tone look better. It's a very useful plug in and has plenty of control to tweak the image to your liking.

Filmconvert def takes down the green. I always felt it sucked the life out of nature. Greens go brown yellow, good if you want a gritty desert look but not for lush outdoor actionsport in Hawaii. still does a great job on skins.
