Film stock number. What do they mean?

I am wondering what exactly film stock numbers mean. IE. Kodaks V3 500t being called 5219 for 35mm and 7219 for 16mm. Is there a reason kodak seems to be 52** and Fuji 85** does it have something to do with exposure or colour?

thanks

52xx = 35mm. 72xx = 16mm. The "xx" is the actual stock (so 5285 is 100D reversal in 35mm, 7285 is 100D reversal in 16mm).

so the 52 doesn't actually mean anything other than 35mm? I suppose this is the same with Fuji using 85 as opposed to 52?
