hi, i just bought hvx200a, ordered a redrock mattebox,confused about getting redrock micro or letus extreme lens adapter for nikon mount,need to shoot music videos and documentries,tried zacuto website,but dont know what the products are for( like their functions}, can you suggest me something,and of course a tripod under $3000,
thanks

LEtus Extreme - low light loss, image right side up, cheap (vibrating adaptor, cannot do overcranking or stop down slr lens past f5.6 without seeing grain patten)

Redrock Micro - eats more light, not sure if it has a flip function (spining adaptor, can do overcranking and stop down past 5.6)

Tripod - Cartoni Focus (cheapest fluid head I would recommend), Sachtler DV6SB (fluid head I own, really worth the extra money).

Mattebox - not necessary if you have a small budget

Lights - very important, is that in your budget?

Rails - pretty important when adding an adaptor's weight onto the HVX's threads.

HD LCD - pretty important to get critical focus with an adaptor (HVX displays DO NOT CUT IT).

Bottom line - count your costs and do your research before jumping in. $3000 does not go very far in this specialized field.

hi, the $3000 is for tripod only, i have $15000 total budget ,i got hvx200a and ordered redrock micro mattebox for $750 something,
but need tripod <$3000
and the rest will go by the price.
i assume
tripod = $3000
lights = $3000
lens adapter = $2000 (with all rails and stuff)0
sound (rode mic,senhiser handheld) =$2000
so total = $10000 i can spend now after getting the hvx..
Sorry for confusion

I recommend the new rode NTG3 for audio. As for tripods can someone explain to me why everyone is hating on the bogen 501? I have been using it for 3 years now and a few months with my HVX I have had zero problems.

no problems with the 501. ITs a great head as long as you arent adding a lot of extra crap to your rig. When you start adding extra things like lens adapters, rails, follow focuses etc, you are adding more weight to the tripod that is pretty much just suited for the HVX along with a firestore and maybe a mattebox. The 503 is better, but still is a bit too light of a tripod for the job. No one is saying it wont work, it just wont work as well when fully loaded down for a film.

On the audio side I have to say that I love my senn. ME66. Never messed with anything else, as this is pretty much the mic of choice for me!

Music Vid and doco?

Scrap the 35mm adapter. Save your beans on that one. Personally for that kind of work, Id go a jib / dolly before the adapter. Much greater value add.

Get the Sachtler mentioned by Awakened. Nice set up.

Mics - Sanken cs3 shotgun (hyper for exteriors) and Im buying some Chiniz mics (Cardioid for interiors) from Oleg at the moment - great prices and better performance then an Octava, I trust Oleg isnt just spinning one - You really need something for indoor and out.

Lights - check out cool lights. Richard is a board member so youre sure to get info when you need it.

hi, i have couple of dollies,and a friend of mine have a nice jib/crane setup i can use anytime for free,
our studio have ENG panasonic + sony dv(cam)cameras and have some heavy tripods,but they are jerky can cheap and heavy,
i think cartoni focus will be good and under my price range, but will it lift the lens adapter load? thats the question
btw the 35mm adapter i only want because Someday i want to make my own film(i hope so) and want to start practise the short films and stuff, we have many 35mm 2.8 nikon lenses already for our digital still cameras,so lenses will not be a problem.
