Film GG?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I read somewhere on DVinfo about Using a Film Frame negative as a Ground glass. The thread died out for some reason, but--has anyone tried this? I was thinking of using a large film-- maybe 70mm and photographing a white void--maybe made by photographing in front of some bright halogens, or even photographing a large white/ grey wall? Has this worked - or can it work?
I am really don’t really have much knowledge on film photography, or photo chemistry even!, can anyone give my some pointers, or point out my ignorance?--lol

I don't think a fully exposed piece of film would function as would ground glass. It might work if only partially exposed. A piece of very fine grain sheet film (Plus-X 4 x 5) just fogged enough to give you something like a zone 2, might work.

Haven't tried it myself, so its just a suggestion.

What exactly are you trying to do?
Create a ground glass for a motion picture camera?
People have used film clips in special purpose cameras to use for lining up visual effects but most films aren't flat enough to be used as the ground glass to focus on.
When film is in a camera it has a pressure plate and railings which keep it flat but being held only by the edges is likely to bow.

im making a micro 35 for my dvx- but trying to experiment with better gg. and something could be devised to hold up the film  --just need to know will a projection be possible on the film if the film was exposed on, or/photgraped a white (or grey--whatever) wall, then using the negative as a ground glass.

what do you mean film is not flat enough??
