film & edit in portrait not landscape

been asked to make a film for a gallery exhibition - they want to flip the widescreen plasma 90 degrees to emulate the painting the film is about. i've never done anything like this before & not seen any examples.
not sure if i'm answering my own questions but the only way i can see to achieve this is to film with the camera on its side & then edit with the footage also on its side (can imagine having to lie down on my side to do this without becoming totally confused - the lazy edit).
i've tried filming in this way & whilst feeling strange, it is at least achievable - pans are an interesting challenge. but the thought of editing with the image on its side makes me want to run away - i fear for my sanity. is there a way of flipping the monitor in prem pro 1.5? if not does anyone have any other clever ways of achieving this whole process without going mad? has anyone had experience of this?
any help would be much appreciated

for about 30 bucks you can get a bogen tilt head and lock it at 90 then put a quick release plate on the bottom and you are set. shoot as usual. it may take a bit to adjust but it will work.. the hard part will be post, maybe throw a rotate on everything while you are editing, then turn it off once you are done....

Or rotate your editing monitor 90 degrees. There are some lcd monitors out there (HP makes one I just worked with) that can rotate and display like that...

the problem with that is that either your timeline will be vertical and the video will look correct or everything will correct its self and youll have the same problem..

can't you make a custom project in ppro? i have prem6.5 and i'd make a VFW or quicktime project with the frame size of 480x720 and that will give the "portrait" then when you import the video and use (great i just drew a blank) but there's an effect that you can rotate the video with. now export...hmmm...you can do one of two things...

1) export at the project frame size and then repeat the above procedure, but rotating the video back into 720x480

or

2) before you export remove the "rotate" effect and then export at 720x480.

before anyone gives me hard time about 720x480. i don't know how it was shot, but in all cases the video is recorded as 720x480. :)

thanks for the replies folks
managed to borrow a tilt head for my manfrotto tripod that seems to work ok
with editing, i've not got an lcd monitor, but tried a custom project vfw 576x720 (pal) & then rotated the captured footage. not sure if its to do with the pixel ratio of 1.067 but theres very thin black lines left & right edges, where the footage doesnt quite fit the project settings. but this seems the best way to edit, then flip everything back before exporting normally as a 720x576 microsoft dv avi file - then it looks ok on the flipped plasma screen

Which way?

Which way?

Sounds like a fun challenge on your hands. This may be a silly question, but have you already coordinated with the gallery on which way they are going to rotate their plasma (i.e. rotate the screen 90-degrees clockwise or counter-clockwise)? With some modern art you probably couldn't tell, but it would be ashame if you went to all this effort only to have everything upside down! Good luck.
