..so now i gatta kiss ass untill like...July-ish..oh man....but it'll be worth it.

Take the money it would cost for film camp, add it to the amount of the DVX your Dad plans to buy you.... and upgrade to an HVX.

Well..this teaches you different styles of making movies...and learning how to write and direct and stuff like that.

PDX...there will be hot girls.....dont worry..ill make sure they are there..

If i go..ill definitly post sum stufff up for u.

FilmJunkie...I kno you guys help me out a wholllllle lot...but i wanna really learn some things in the classroom from like those pros that work in the industry in person...and do something during the summer..and not stay home the whole summer.

not tryin to diss u all or nething..

I went to a place just like that and didn't get much out of it excpet free use of their equipment for life. Which is actually pretty cool.

EDIT: Filmjunkie is right the networking part is great too.

Do whatever you wanna do, blackhawk. You can probably meet some cool people and teachers and get some good connections. Meeting people, thats a major part of the business!!!

yeh i guess...the only reason i wanna go is....to learn some stuff...meet chicks...meet teachers nd stuff..and be able to put that on my resume wen i start looking for jobs..and recommendation letters.

hm...i think i might put DVXuser.com on my resume too wen the time comes..haha

i didnt go to film camp (or band camp), but hell yeah you had better if your parents are footing the bill! thats awesome man. youd be stupid not to go. youll learn stuff and make contacts, never a bad thing. and then when you get that camera (dam n dood youre rents are awesome) youll have some good techniques to start you out.

My friend was making a comparision..hes like..dude...fuk! when u get back...its gonna be like..transforming to Saving Private Ryan quality movies...

..i got weird friends..

But yeh..ur rite thou...good techniques...sweet cam...this place will hear a small rumble once i comeback. haha :)

..but im still kinda iffy bout goin...cuz my parents are really pushin me to get off the comp (..here..) and go into something serious for film like make suttin or study it....iduno..im weird.

lol

its ok to be nervous but dont let it hold you back. the world is your playground dood. throw on a fresh pair and get the fook off the puter and nail it! your rents have given you all the tools you need. grab it by the tailfeathers and just go nuts. youre gonna be so much cooler than all your other poser friends. everyones nervous their first time, but you just gotta follow through with it, youll get better as you go. merry holidays to you and your rents, and starstruck pals.

definately skip film camp... you can learn so much more for so much less. save that huge sum of money for a camera and read a lot of books. the best way to gain experience is to have motivation to start a project. experience is THE way to know how to make YOUR perfect film, not what someone else tells you is a perfect film. it seems like youre paying 5400 for forced motivation and experience. you can do all of that independently for a much more rewarding, less expensive outcome. In filmmaking, there is no one way that you need to learn, but a subjective, personally contrived creative process, whether its conventional or not.

I dunno . . .

I see a lot of people with cameras who don't do anything but shoot their cats.

It's not as easy as just buying a camera. If you want to make a film, you need to be motivated to do it; you need to be disciplined and structured to that approach. You need to be able to recruit and motivate people. You need to be able to do a whole lot of things that just buying a camera doesn't give you.

And not everyone's good at that. Not everyone will BE good at that.

Which is is why a lot of people with cameras do nothing but shoot their cats.

We all agree that experience is the best teacher. Well, a whole lot of people are never going to GET that experience if they try to do it all themselves. If you have an environment where you can immerse yourself in filmmaking, and you don't have to be the one doing all the work, figuring out schedules, wrangling grips, getting scenery done . . . all the thousands of mundane things which need to be done and which you alone will be responsible for if you try to go it alone . . . heck, that's valuable.

You can't expect to run a restaurant without being inside one, and by that, I mean being inside the inner workings of one. You can't just take a pile of parts and one day decide to build a car. And crafting a movie is every bit as complex.

So, it may work for some that buying the camera is the smart move. But it isn't for everyone.

what if instead of going to a film camp you tried to get an internship with a production company? i live in new york and i am in highschool. i was wondering about this myself. do production companies even do that? any suggestions?
