Filling 1TB Drive(s), next move?

So I have just about filled my mirrored 1TB drives on my MacPro. My questions are:

  • Shooting AVCHD my Video Raw Footage folder is now 814 GB. This folder includes my Capture Scratch folder of 451 GB.
  • Some of the folders are old, and can be moved elsewhere to free up space.
  • Final Cut Pro documents folder is 136 GB. Seems like no big deal.
  • My Scratch Disks are set to BOTH my 1TB as detailed above, AND
  • an external drive (FW800)
  • Question: Did I properly set the Scratch disks under System Setting? I'm now questioning why I set both drives as Scratch disks and can't remember. I think I had a good reason (G)
  • Question: What is the right move to free up space on the mirrored 1TBs?
    • Do I simply MOVE the folder I no longer need to the external drives?
    • OR do I use some other method?
  • Obviously, I'm concerned about losing my references to my original video. I've heard enough horror stories with how FCP cannot handle moving the original video that I need a bit of guidance here.
  • What's the next move? File based MOVE or some other mechanism?

If you made a mess of your scratch disks and afraid of losing your reference videos, proper way to copy(or move) your project is to use 'Media Manager' in FCP. It is located under File.
Manual explains how to use it quite nicely, please read that part first.
Few tips:
-If you want to move or copy all your sequences in a project, simply click on the browser and do not choose anything. Goto Media manager and you'll see the entire project is selected to be moved(or copied).
-By using media manager you can decide to include or exclude the peripheral files (such as render files, unused portions of the clips, handles etc) to be copied(moved) or not.
-Difference between copying & moving: Copying doesnt harm your original project, it simply creates a copy of your project in the destination drive. Moving migrates your project the way you want to the destination drive. I suggest start with copying until you become proficient with the media manager.

There is a huge section on the Media Manager, and its use in the FCP pdf manuals.

It might be prudent to read the section, and then come back with questions.

Hey thanks guys. Yes, it appears that M.M. will move all related files, including MOV files to somewhere else. I'll be getting my new 2TB drive today or Monday via pony express, so I'll come back and let everyone know anything worth noting in the process.
