File Transfer Issue With FCP

Today I went into FCP like I normally do, Had my HVX200 connected via firewire 400, to my mac pro. I have FCP2 suite. The camera connected fine, then while in FCP I tried to File Transfer, The 2 Cards started to come up then FCP quite and this message popped up!!

The application final Cut Pro quit Unexpectedly after it was launched. The problem may have been caused by the libMXF_SDK_r.3.2.0.1.3.2.dylib Plug-in.

Then it goes on to say no other aplication was affected u can report relaunch or ingnore.

So whats going on here? I am trying to import my footage like I have for the last 2 years I have owned the camera.

Thank you in advance

Eric

Just to make sure there's not a mix up in terminology...you are using log and transfer...correct?

What happened when you restarted Final Cut? Did you try the process again?

Jim

Thank you for the correction in terminology. Yes it is log and transfer. I have restarted my computer and unplugged the firewire connecting my camera to my mac pro. Tried to do the same process i did again and the same exact outcome fcp quit unexpectedly with the same group of number and letters may be the cause. I just imported the card onto my desktop and I am going to try importing then to fcp from there. Any help would great!

Just to be clear the card are coming up on the computer on the desktop as noname devices like they always have.

Thankyou

I haven't tried Log and Transfer direct from a P2 card. Instead I copy the P2 files first to a new folder in a data drive. Then, open FCP and add that folder after opening the Log and Transfer window.

Obviously your method has worked before, so my only thought is to try opening the Log and Transfer window without the firewire hooked up between the Mac and the HVX, just to see if the error message pops up or not. If it doesn't pop up, then try adding an existing folder with clips in it. If still no error message, then try using a new firewire cable.

that's the way you SHOULD be doing it. eric, they way that youre doing it (log/capt straight from connected cam) is risky.

possible, feasible, and not technically harmful. just risky on several levels.

I over looked the part in his original post where he said he was transferring directly from the camera into Final Cut. Yes, of course, transfer the files to your media drive before going through the Log and Transfer process into Final Cut.

Sorry for the confusion.

Just curious....I have used both methods, but primarily find myself connecting the camera and with FCP open then starting a log and transfer. I have never had any issues transferring this way. Done this about 200 times now. Is this risky in the sense that data can be corrupted? I always properly eject the camera volume and power off after the 1394 disconnect appears.

"risk" for any number of reasons. but primarily because you have no source archive of the original complete photographed material. capturing straight from cards/camera is ok. if you never reconsider your edits or youre confident your media wont corrupt...

nothing is foolproof. but it seems foolish not to take fundamental archiving measures...

just MHO.

Thanks....I guess I'll export my cards with P2CMS first and transfer from that.
