Here's my DIY figrig.
I got a truck steering wheel from a wreckers for about 5 bucks and cut out the middle with a grinder - it's very sturdy. Steel pipe was cut in half then welded to the horizontal plate, held on by hose clamps so I can take it off if need be. I should have used a wider bit of horizontal plate so that's why that other bit of plate is welded onto it.
The camera plate is the monfrotto 577, got it off ebay for about US $75. It's well worth the money though as it's solid and makes balancing the cam a breeze.
Tennis raquet tape was used for the handgrips, about $5 ea.
I'm more than pleased with this design. It's also possible to do the zoom and focus with the varizoom controller with the one hand. I also just purchased some hotshoe mounts off ebay so I'll attach them with hose clams so they're moveable.
