I've been working with some mates on a project that we hope to get moving in the near future. We have been doing a few test shoots to learn how to shoot action and what works/looks good.

here is our latest test shoot.

No lighting. Shot over 2 days. Never liked the 14-140 lens. Rather demoralizing at the time to shot due to many reasons. Once it was cut together it was kinda cool. Our mate Dan did the vfx, it was his first time doing it as hes just got into vfx as a hobby. Action is hard to shoot and we have soooo much to learn.

So now we feel much better about shooting our project and will keep working at it.

Somehow my previous reply has gone into oblivion ...
Just like to mention again that the shots are Great really great, VFX maybe they will improve once the right mood light is given. Nice to see some fight action Aussie work to write about and not the Aussie soapy girl fight rescue crap stunts that we see on our national TV. Stunts are very good and they kick-ass, good flow and I love the extra realism at 1:29 a large nail on the wall. Now, that makes me shiver knowing that was actually a real nail at head level. Perhaps next time some scouting to avoid what could had been tragic moment.
Overall great work .. Congrats

Thanks bro,

Yeah that nail looks scary once you point it out. It didn't seem that close on the day. Thanks for the complements.

Nicely done! I actually like the more gritty/no lights look, though I suppose more dramatic lighting will be, well, more dramatic (fire up those Totas!). Maybe just a couple of cuts could have bit a bit quicker?

This is nearly all 14-140? What ISO?

iso was up to 1600 and some times even 3200 (edited cause im dumb). it looked really bad on the on board lcd. Focusing was almost impossible even with my dp6 as the edge contrast was sooo blurry. On the day I thought it was all completely unusable but it wasn't so bad once edited together.

EPIC EPIC EPIC **** right there my friend! I mean...WOW! Only critique I could offer is the following:

1. Brightness of the blood spatter is a dead giveaway of vfx. I believe a HINT of spatter would prove more realistic.
2. Follow up effects of the broken arm were not there leading the viewer to believe that there was no previous injury.
3. Same with the blood and facial injury...should have been having a field day with the corn syrup and food coloring...lol it would have been messy but great visually.

Other than that you guys are on your way to a KILLER feature and I will be buying the first ticket. Wow. Had to say it again...lol

Thanks Dreallen. We hadn't planned on doing any vfx on it originally. It was just our mate Dan wanted to give it a shot. I agree with your comments though.

for a test you did a great job , and i would love to see the full feature .
did you download the punches and swooshes sounds ? if yes , where? cause i had a fight scene and i couldnt find the right sounds for a fight
good luck buddy

By the way...the SDXC card is FINE. Down and Dangerous was shot completely on the cards. Zack Forsman opted to decline using an external recorder to save money and time in post. And it came out brilliant from what I can see. And the film festivals circuit loves it so far.

Nice work on this Jackson (late to the party). I really like the look of the big guy on screen.

Thanks Noel.

Just an update. This little fight got Steve (shorter guy) and Ryan (big guy) jobs on the hobbit over the last month over in NZ.
Which is great but its meant our plans for more projects have been put on hold for a while :(
