Field monitor?

Hi guys,

I'm wondering what you guys're using as a field monitor?

I'll be shooting a project next month, I'd like to have a large monitor(what I mean by large is: bigger than the DVX LCD). So my crew can look at it as I'm shooting. I would like to have the 16:9 aspect ratio capability since I'll be shooting in squeez. Do you guys always bring a SONY 9"+ field monitor with you on the shoot? Or there's some other cheaper alternatives? Thanks.

Shaun

I have a very cheap alternative. B&W battery operated TV from Walgreens is about $20.00 and has an Composite video jack. It aint the ritz, but it beats the hell out of nothing!

I second the recommendation for the JVC. I got mine from EVS and love it. It's a lot like the Sony. Resolution's not so high (which is part of why its so cheap, but now I see it's got MORE lines than the Sony) but the picture looks great anyway. I say save the money and get a nice protective bag for it.

Really nice bag, I'd even say its just as good as the porta-brace.

Oh there's a "better" sony too.. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...466&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation - 450lines, But thats over a grand. :undecided

The JVC is also available re-branded from Ikegami and Panasonic! (But it's a JVC tube)

JVC: (TM-910SU) $610

Ikegami: (TM9-1) $680

What do you guys think about using DVRack as a field monitor? Is this a good alternative?

Yeah, I'm wondering about this too. The only drawback is that DVRack is PC only. My 17" PB which would be a great field monitor if DVRack has a Mac version. :embarasse
