Just as the title says, looking to purchase a field monitor for under $200. Will be used with my XHA1 + Letus rig. HD would be great, but getting an HD monitor under $200 might be wishful thinking. shoot me a PM or reply here.

You can get a pretty nice little HD field monitor (component and HDMI) from Lilliput (ebay sellers or direct from their USA website) for around $200 brand new.

If your looking for 7" then go with lilliput, If you want 13"-15" go to cvs and buy the craig monitor. It has hdmi, component, composite, vga, dvi. And is 720 p. They can be bought for any where between 100.00-150.00. Plus the great thing is their 12 volt, which easily run off a 12 volt battery. The batteries on ebay. will run it for most of the day. Good deal if your in a pinch and don't have the cash for a high end moniter. Not to mention, their super light, light enough to be held by a hotshoe.

I was offered a iKan V8000HD. opinions on that monitor?

It's a terrible monitor. Bad color, poor resolution, poor plastic construction with loose component inputs that will constantly cut in and out (and not even RCA or labeled). A badly designed battery plate that will one day cause the battery to drop off the monitor. I have that monitor for over a year, was sent back to Ikan twice for service, and it was such a hassle to use that it was better to just use the onboard LCD for focus.

dang. thanks for the input. guess I won't be buying that one from him then!

If you're considering a Lilliput, then bashing the Ikan seems a little unfair. Lilliput is not exactly a premium monitor, either.
I own both the Lilliput and the Ikan you mentioned, and in my opinion, the Ikan is easily the better monitor. It has better color, and the build has been just fine for me (I own 3 of them). The inputs and outputs are most certainly labeled and no, they aren't RCA, they are BNC which is better than RCA. The plastic construction is the same as the Lilliput. You can't compare it to a Marshall or a Panasonic, but that's apples to oranges. We're comparing it to a $200 Lilliput.

If you need HDMI, then the Ikan won't work for you, but if you're choosing between that and the Lilliput and you don't need HDMI, then the Ikan is not a bad choice. For roughly $200, either would be fine, but I would choose Ikan.

I have the Lilliput. It's not great for checking exposure and color but it is very useful if you are trying to pull focus and need a larger screen.
