Field Monitor: Sony or Tote Vision?

After many questions and much searching I have narrowed my search for a client/field monitor to either:

Sony LMD-1530W

or

Tote Vision LCD-1560HD

Both are about the same size, features, and support an HDMI connection. The Tote Vision is a almost $300 less, but I have never heard of Tote Vision before.

Does anyone have any experience with these monitors or suggestions on which one to get?

Thanks,

Chris

Sorry Chris..I must have mis read it. You are correct.

Actually I think they changed the specs just after I read it and posted!

Chris, have you considered going with the Marshall 17" monitor? It's higher resolution, yet street prices are still in the same ballpark. And whether you sport a Nanoflash or have an on-board HD monitor (such as the Marshall 7"), you can daisy chain the two and get monitoring for both on-camera and client monitors.

That is a beautiful monitor, but unfortunately it is in a different price ballpark for me. The two I am considering are under $1,000 and the Marshall is over $1,800.

This is so frustrating. I've been searching all night and I can't find one stinking review (good or bad) for either of these two monitors.

Are you sure?

I see the Sony listed as 1280 x 768 and the Tote Vision as 1366 x 768.

Am I misunderstanding something?

I see the Sony as 1360 x 768 and the Tote is 1366 x 768, just to make the decision even closer!!! (are they changing these specs by the hour???)

Sorry, Chris. I must have been cross-eyed when I read over the Marshall specs. I was certain it said $1,300. The must be changing the pricing by the hour, too! :)

As for making your decision, I'd be asking myself: Which monitor has the I/O that I need? Will I be using this monitor for anything other than a client monitor? If so, what features do I need?

Just looking at the two, I would be inclined to choose the Sony. The resolution is closer to native 720p than the Tote Vision, which makes me think it was intended as a *video* monitor and not a *computer* monitor. Also, the 1541W appears to be the next model up within the same product line. It also appears to be a serious video monitor. Sony gets my vote. Disclaimer: I have not seen or used either monitor.

but the sony only supports AC power. i think if i were wanting a field monitor, having DC power would be important. the tote vision has DC power input. i use the small HD monitors and love them.
