Field Dumping to MacBook Pro

We are pretty new to all of this and when we originally purchased our 200A with the 16g P2 card we thought we would never need more capacity than that before we would want to work on it. It didn't take long to figure out that we would want more shooting capacity while out in the field. I have a personal MBP that we could dump to in the field, but we are not expecting to do any field editing in the foreseeable future. We are looking at getting a 32g P2 card and a duel adapter just to dump to the MBP and transfer over to an external drive or 2. The footage will be edited on another machine (iMac) back in the office/home. My question is do you have to have FCP loaded on the MBP in order to dump the P2 card? Would like to not incur the cost of another FCP license if we are not going to use it for editing. Thanks for your input and assistance!

No you don't need FCP installed just to offload the footage. You do need the P2 drivers installed, but those are a free download.

there may be other options to viewing, but personally i use my mbp with fcp on it, transfer footage with a dual adapter, then do a a log and transfer in the field to check out my shots and feel good that everything was copied over.
