Field Battery for DVX100A

Hello, I've found that running a shotgun mic into the DVX100A really uses up batteries fast. Is there a lexternal battery set up that you can plug an adapter into for outside shooting that will last for a while without changing it?
Thanks Craig

shotgun mic? yikes... shotguns use very, very very little power, in fact most dual source mics last around 100 hours on a single AA... i think that your camera just used power very fast, which is normal. the stock battery should last you under an hour.

what kinda of shotgun do you have? I know you can phantom power it but most come with an internal AA battery, and I really couldn't see how it would suck very much power since a mic like a ME66 gets something like 1000 hours from a single battery

I've got an ME66. Maybe I should be asking how to phantom power the DVX. The camera just uses batteries. I'm just trying to get an alternative to carrying a lot of batteries around - Craig

The main way is to get a bigger battery. The DVXUser batteries sold here will last for around five hours. The biggest battery, the CGR-D54, will last for about five and a half. Two of those will drive a camera pretty much all day under any circumstances.

The little battery that comes stock with the camera will, as Jarred said, run dry in about an hour.

i have the 5400 from panasonic. i was totally impressed when i used it at an event on the mountain and worked 7 hours at -15 celsius (around 10-20 F?). mind you i didn´t use the LCD and i am always fully manual (iris, focus, zoom). the battery was still half full after that! we used the same battery to capture 2 tapes before i recharged it.
IMO the DVX does NOT use a lot of power if you do some stuff yourself. i am sure the Zoom eats most, the the autoiris.

phantom power just means that the mic is sucking it's juice from the camera, but like I said, your mic should just take a single battery that will run it for a long time. ordering bigger batteries for your camera is a good Idea, I have 2 from this site just like lot's of people..

Thanks I'll try that

That sounds like the best alternative. I didn't know they made batteries that big for the camera. Thanks again - Craig

What do you mean? DVX100A ships with the big battery...

yes, i got that big one with the cam. but i ordered 2 more from this site (they are about 90% of the pana´s capacity with half the price). now i can probably go onb expedition for a week without a charger. if you don´t have one yet, buy 2 here and you are set for long productions.

wait a minute, i have two dvx-100a's, the first one i got was when they first came out and it has the tiny battery, the second one i got was about 5 weeks ago and it too came with the tiny battery.

jan?

gabriel, i didn´t try to sell you the DVX5000 batt since you get the 5400 for a REALLY GOOD price....;-)

matt, in europe (and apparently also in NZ) the DVX100 is coming with a 5400 battery and a 63min MQ tape. in the US AFAIK it is the 1600 battery. but panasonic needs to make money somewhere after setting you guys up with Magic Bullet AND the book+DVD :D
