Ferrite Core

There are no disadvantages. The only potential advantage comes from increasing the common mode impedance. This could, under very specific conditions, offer a degree of RFI reduction.

so, like if the microwaves of the world united and waged war against the humans with the help of a fleet of honda asimo's, then I could get cleaner sound? Got it.

I know common mode rejection and impedance. I think you may have created a new term.

No, this is not a "created" term. In a differential circuit (read balanced) there are two modes of, common and differential. The entire underlying concept of the rejection that a balanced circuit exhibits is based upon the massive difference in the common vs. differential mode impedance.

Consider a "perfect" balanced generator. Lets use a dynamic microphone as an example. The differential mode impedance might be 600 Ohms (this is the impedance of the voice coil / output transformer) however, the common mode impedance is nearly infinite (made up of only the leakage components, both resistive and reactive). It is this difference which allows a "balanced receiver" combined with a "balanced source" to exhibit any amount of CMRR (common mode rejection ratio).

This is basic knowledge, not a"created" term.
