Feature Trailer: Green Valley

Howdy all,

I guess it's my turn to share the newest trailer with the community. It just hit MySpace so I wanted to spread the disease on over here. Below are the links directly to the trailer, as well as to its MySpace page, if you are so willing to add it as a friend.

The movie is called Green Valley. I shot this for a friend back in March. We used the DVX100. Above all else, the trailer is meant to evoke the tone and pacing of the movie, so if you feel like you're not getting much about the story, that's somewhat expected.

I'll try and post BTS shots soon. And don't be too critical of the cinematography - it's the first thing I've ever shot.

I have to say i didnt like the trailer at all it couldnt hold my attention for more then 10 seconds, i finished the entire thing but it was a struggle and thats not a good thing for a trailer.

I understand you were going for an abstract kinda trailer and in that sense it definately was, but you have to have more story shown or sharper more exciting cuts to hold peoples attention, if not people are gonna have a hard time enjoying this trailer.

But dont take this as a judgement of the film I look forward to seeing what this thing is all about because the trailer left ALOT to the imagination. I just didnt feel the trailer was very effective however others may love it just wasnt for me.

i think the general thrust of the film - some sort of horror/thriller, a bunch of guys go for a bonding session in the woods, get attacked by a psychopath - is pretty evident, if only from the music.

i commend you for taking a different approach to the typical trailer, which is similar to a sausage - a bunch of crap squeezed into a tight space.

but (and there's always a but) it's probably not going to win you many fans, only because people have certain expectations from trailers (being raised on the garbage churned out by hollywood and emulated by every amateur filmmaker).

marketing is everything. bums on seats etc. i would seriously consider a ridiculous, intelligence-insulting 'multiplex' re-edited trailer, complete with melodramatic narrator, cliched phrases and plenty of whooshing noises.

I was definitely thinking about this trailer while I was watching:

Not a "multiplex" trailer by any means. Similar slow pace, creepy at times discordant piano, abstract and distanct interaction of the characters... your trailer could use some tightening up, but I like the atmosphere you set up.

Can you tell us a little more what it's about? Right now I'm seeing not so much a straight horror movie, just a creepy interlude in the woods on the outskirts of a small town among friends who aren't quite seeing eye to eye; something's afoot.

Funny, when Josh Barry (the co-writer/director) and I discussed Green Valley before the shoot, Elephant was a film that entered discussions. If I had to guess, I'd say he'd be flattered that you thought of it during his trailer.

About the story... I'll leave the synopsis up to Josh. Let me see if he's already written one up. I'd hate to misrepresent the movie in any way, but I will say that both you and DArcyFD are well on the right track.

DArcyFD: Ha ha. Your post made me laugh. That topic also entered our discussions.
