Feature settings question for 1080i/24pa

I’m starting a narrative feature next week and need some advice on settings for this HPX170 before I turn it over to the camerman. I’ve read Barry’s book and I’ve looked at all the scene files on the dvd. Frankly, a lot of those don’t seem very useful unless you want to hammer down an extreme look in the camera, and I want as much leeway as possible in post. So, I’m looking at the default settings for shooting 1080i/24pa. Any red flags here for changes you would do?

Scene File F5: CINE V
operation type: film cam
syncro scan: 180.0d
detail level: 0
v detail level 0
detail coring 0
chroma level -2
chroma phase 0
master ped -5
iris level -7

gamma: cinelike V
matrix cine-like
skin detail: off

I notice that if i choose Scene File F6, the vert. detail goes from thick to thin. and master ped goes -2 instead of -5. Chroma level goes from -2 to 0.

End product use needs an option for theatre release (least likely) as well as option for straight to dvd or blue ray. (more likely).

I know settings have been covered here a lot but I’m still looking for basic settings with this destination in mind, so I don’t make a big mistake at the beginning of this journey. Thanks a lot for any input.

Do a search (or maybe someone remembers where) for a film like look scene file that was posted by another dvxer. I've copied it, and it is very versatile and not extreme.

Searched all the threads and looks like it's all over the board. Sort of like asking someone what's your favorite color i guess. So I'll go with the defaults and concentrate on good lighting setups and acting.

my 2 cents
I'd keep master ped at 0 - remember you can always crunch down your black levels in post ....shoot it clean, later in post you will give it the look it needs.

Cinelike-D will give you a more latitude to play with your transfer but it does increase noise though. The HPX170 is pretty clean also.
