Feature request: Movable EVF

Hi Jan and the good people at Panasonic,

For those of us who need to work the AF100 from our shoulders, it would be really terrific if the supplied EVF could be removed and mounted elsewhere, such as at the sensor plane on the left side of the camera. I imagine a simple connector from which we could remove the EVF, and an extension cable of 12 inches or so. Iʻm now considering a third-party EVF so that I could mount it in this location, but this seems sort of wasteful when you consider that your EVF is sitting out there at back, unused.

Maybe this becomes part of AF100 v.2, maybe a factory retrofit for us v.1 early adopters?

All the best to you, and Aloha!

Jeff

Yeah I hear ya. Though personally I find the EVF on the AF-100 complete garbage and unusable. I guess I'm more prone to the "rainbow effect" of single chip DLP displays so that's all I see when I look inside there. Any movement and images turn into a colorful acid trip.

Personally I'm waiting for either the RedRock Micro EVF or the LCDVF to come out. Just not a fan of the Zacuto or Cineroid solutions.

I think both the EVF and the LCD screen should be mounted via a gooseneck or flex arm. A gooseneck arm or a flex arm of some type would allow placement where the operator needs it. It could then tuck into it's "nest" when not needed and in the case. Think of the camera with two flex wires or arms suspending the view finders out where they are needed. They could be mover up/down, left/right, forward/back.... yes they would flex a bit when moving around.... so what.

Why have an EVF on it at all? I really think Panny needs to release a raw body and allow users to add their own LCD, EVF, lenses etc... go the way of RED and you can put togeather your perfect rig without te fat. :-) But that's just me.

Thatʻs pretty bold, really thinking outside the box. (No pun intended.) Interesting concept...

I may some of the very few that think the EVF is fine. Also as a side note, I discovered that some (I'm sure no one on this forum) were not aware of the diopeter on the viewfinder!
