In 2005, Darius Weems, a 15 year old with Duchenne muscular dystrophy traveled across the country with the goal of getting his wheelchair pimped on MTV´s Pimp My Ride. 11 of his friends, including director Logan Smalley (and one time DVXuser member, still around Logan?) tagged along with 2 DVX100a´s to make a documentary. I helped Logan edit the nearly 300 hours of film into a 90 minute movie. A year later, the film one over 25 awards at more than 40 festivals across the country, including Tribecca.

Since then, the crew has traveled the country showing the film in an effort to spread awareness and raise money for DMD research. I have been amazed by the power of the film, as it has inspired numerous screenings by students and fans and raised over 1.5 million dollars for DMD research.

Recently, MTV announced they will be showing the film on MTV2, a huge success for the awareness-raising efforts of the movie.

Two days ago, DGW launched a new online distribution system. You can now watch the entire movie for free here: http://www.dariusgoeswest.org/playitforward/index.php?oid=dgwx105

The guys want as many people to see this movie as possible, and this competitive attempt at free online distribution is really cool. Check out the movie, check out the trailer, and consider the power 2 DVX100s have had when put in the hands of a few passionate filmmakers. I´d love to hear any and all comments on everything from the movie to philosophy to DMD to ideas about online distribution.

Best,

Almost done the movie, and i'm loving it. Great job. Can I just ask what was used to make the musical score for the parts that did have music? I always wondered where reality shows/documentaries got their music from. It always has the same qualities. Kinda hard to explain.

Oh and I also noticed that some of the shots when they're interviewing the mother are out of focus.
