Feature FIlm Funding Questions - PLEASE HELP MOI

Jpbankesmercer is right on the money. Please please please write it all down. That's what the "Action Filmmaking Workbook" is all about, getting this stuff down on paper and keeping it close by. This one thing can really stop the process because we creative types are all scatterbrained. LOL. Write it down!

Your local film commission can also fund completion costs, such as final print, sound design, editing.

This is something you people who live in other countries have up on us. Here in America, especially near LA, I've never heard of anyone getting a dime from a film commission. But I'd love to be proven wrong!

Here in New Zealand it looks like it'd be tough getting money out of the commission as well. They have a long list of stuff you need to have before you apply, you need to have an experienced producer with film credits attached to your project (not many of them here), and it looks like it's the same people getting the funding each time. Not much money going round.

I haven't ever heard from anyone who received funding from a film commission, most of the stories I hear are about credit cards, investors, etc.

Speaking of investors, has anyone ever had overseas investors put money into your project? I'm guessing that would probably not be normal practice. Personally I'm not close to being ready to shoot a feature yet but I'm slowly starting to put the pieces together about finding and distribution...thank goodness for DVXuser.

I have been reading through these comments since they started coming in and have not had a chance to respond yet because of being busy and because just so much wonderful info is being given here. I just wanted to say thanks, I appreciate it a lot and keep it coming if you like. I am going to comment again later with more specifics. Thanks so much guys!
