FCPX help and answers

Does anyone know how to reconnect media. I cannot seem to do it, and I can't find it in the menus or help file. Which sucks. Because I didn't even move my media, it just says it lost the connection even though it sees the HDD fine. And there is no reconnect media button. Nice...

The more I use this the more frustrated I get..

It could be alot of this is just learning curve. There HAS to be a way to reconnect media.

I'm having trouble muting tracks, because there are no tracks. How do I disable (not delete) the sound for all my clips at once. I am editing footage to a different song and there's a lot of noise for all clips I don't want, I'd like to disable the audio for all of these clicks in 1-2 clicks and be able to re-enable the audio for all of them in a similarly quick and easy way... anyone know how to do this?

I hope so. However, it's hard to not become more pessimistic as I can't find it anywhere, and there were a lot of features I thought "there HAS to be this..." and it's not there :(

I was messing around with moving media around and renaming folders when FCPX is running and not running to see what happened. So far what I've seen to be the case is it will only recognize the "Final Cut Events" folder, the "Final Cut Projects" folder, the "Final Cut Camera Archive", etc in 2 places. It seems they have to be in the "Movies" folder in your account on the system drive or they have to be at the root level on a second drive.

Ok maybe I'm blind, but I'm doing dome grading and want to adjust the levels of just the red channel, but can't for the life of me find where to do that. Any ideas?

Yeah dude, you're my hero!

Edited to add that I'm not sure why I'd use the selection tool ever, really...

Ok, so not sure if anyone will know what's going on here but I'm having trouble with the auto sync tool.

When I create an autosync compound clip from a Canon 7d clip that is 1080p 29.97, the compound clip becomes 720p 23.98.

Now, I can change the parameters of the compound clip to be 1080p, but I can't change the framerate back to what it should be.

I checked my project settings and they seem to match my original footage.

So strange...

In the timeline, you can select all off the clips you'd like to mute. Then Command 4 to bring up the inspector, select the audio tab and lower the volume. It should lower on all of the selected clips in the timeline.

If you select a clip then bring up the inspector using command 4, you can see the path of the clip under info. However, I don't see an easy way to search your computer for the file. You could treat it like an Avid and when you import you can select Copy Files to Final Cut Events folder. Then just never look with that folder. That's if you have the space.

UPDATE: FCP-X dark clips

UPDATE: FCP-X dark clips

I'm having the exact same problem. the clips look normal in thumbnail view but as soon as i scrub over them they turn dark and contrasty, as though a lut had been applied. they are also dark in the timeline.

My clips are from both a gopro and a 5dm2 and the problem is the same if i transcode the clips to prores as well.

if it's a gamma problem does anyone know a solution?

thanks in advance,
Bg

Ok, So after calling the ProApps division of Apple and talking to a nice fellow names Taylor we figured out the dark clip problems solution.

It has to do with your color profiles. i was using a calibrated profile I made with my x-rite Colormunki(which i use for Cs5 and lightroom work) and this does not play well with the new colorsync/FCP-X relationship. Once I changed my color setting back to the default LED Cinema Display in *system pref / display / color* it fixed my problem. I have sent The FCP-X engineers my .icc profile so they can try to fix this problem in a future update. but for now the work-around is using a profile calibrated by apples own methods, not 3rd party.

hope this helps someone else to not have to spend the time on it i did.

Hi fcpxtutor.com,

Thanks for doing your blog! I have zero editing experience and am just getting into video. I'm a photographer and am pursuing video via DSLR. I was all set to go with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, and I decided to wait for FCPX as it seemed it was going to be the answer for idiot photographers like me and still offer pro capability if I were to grow that far. FCPX was released and needless to say, the crap hit the fan. People are livid, but I'm wondering if it still might be better for me as a beginner.

My primary goal is to do music videos at first. How easy is it to load in a music track and then sync up a vocalist on video to that music track.

I imagine it will be years before I ever need to worry about having FCPX fit into a post production work flow that everyone is so upset that it isn't doing at the moment. If I'm self contained, is FCPX going to be more user friendly than CS5.5??? Thanks!

This question is for anyone else that would care to reply to it. All input is welcome. I'm sure there are many out there in the same boat I am.

I posted the same thing this morning: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthrea...e-5D-footage&p=2370986&viewfull=1#post2370986

What I find is that some X-Rite profiles work fine and others don't. Apples own "calibration" is a joke and does not create color accurate screens. Hardware puck is a must for color accuracy. I will try some testing later, but it may also be as simple as what settings within a profile are used, meaning any custom gammas like 2.1 instead of standard 2.2 or other settings when making a screen calibration profile.

Have you figured this out yet? I bet this ability is not there and will be coming in an update.

Saw this in another forum and thought it would help. For a full manual, go here, click the print icon in the upper right hand corner and select "Book Final Cut Pro". The print dialogue will come up. Select save as pdf and save it to your system. The pdf is fully searchable by keyword if you open it in preview.
