FCPX format here to stay?

Yep. Best and most powerful/flexible file management system I've ever worked with.

passing projects is a breeze now. As is file management, cataloging, identifying, ... I can organize however I think (and everyone thinks differently).

Try converting a FCP 7 project to FCP X......
I can get it to convert using the APP I found.
But the new convoluted file management system
is not letting me save any work....

Any ideas?

You don't "save" in FCPX, every action is recorded and saved.

And the file management is not convoluted, it's just metadata based instead of folder/bin based (and far more flexible as a result).

There is no "save as" anymore. All your changes are automatically saved.

Project / edit management is now done in the project manager. If you want to purposefully save an iteration, you would right click a project/edit and "duplicate" to copy the project (and) event media.

X is a totally different way of working. If you're not familiar with its workflow, things like "how do I save" are going to be tremendous hindrances. I strongly suggest watching a few videos online to get youself familiar with the new workflow. Forget everything you think you know about FCP 7 if you intend to use X.

It's a hard transition, especially for people (like myself) who have been editing for years. But once I accepted that everything I think I knew about FCP is gone, the transition is much less painless. And I *LOVE* editing in X now. LOVE!
