FCPX changing default location for files

I am in the process of buying a camera and edit Sw (Camera looks like Pannasonic AG-Ac90 so I will be using AVCHD)

The Edit SW I am looking at is FCPX and installed the trial on my MAC Pro

However the default location for the files seems to be MacHD/Users/account/Movies with no way of changing it. As I have a a second 2TB HD on the Mac I wanted to use that as a default location Is it possible to change he default location? I can't find a way to do it in the menus. Can the default location be changed?

Also is it possible to import images to FCPX without first importing them to iPhoto?

Thanks

Chris

Chris

When you create an event there is an option for where to put that event. Perhaps the trial doesn't have the option.

And use the import function to add photos from wherever.

Many thanks for that.

Re directories I have managed to get it on to the other disk... and found out how to move it.
Re photos I was looking in the bottom right window after clicking the photo icon and could not find a way round that.
It is a pity that FCPX does not work with Lightroom... but then again that is understandable. :-)

I will get the hang of FCPX eventually :-) It will help when I actually get the Camera (Tuesday)

Whilst I am asking silly questions....

Is it worth getting Motion5 and Compressor 4 whilst I am setting it all up? I need to be able to build titles etc in the correct style for the company.

Also is there a good tutorial or book for FPCX? Something that may stop me asking all these damn fool questions? :-)

- You can create Events and Projects on any drive you want, disconnect it and take it to another Mac, use Disk Images, very flexible and easy.
- Proper training will save you tons of headaches and get you up and running much faster. The two absolute best are macProVideo.com and Ripple Training, hands down.
- The Apple authorized training text books, the "Apple Pro Training Series:" from Peachpit press are so out of date now, even the lesson files are problematic now. As a trainer I'm anxious to hear about what Apple Worldwide Training will do about updating the class, but we're not hearing anything just yet.
- Motion 5 for titles, yes.
- Compressor 4 for customized transcoding, yes.
- For now, here's some links to free tutorials and info.
