FCP won't let me import .mov p2 footage

I have some hpx footage in the form of .mov files, but when I try to import them into FCP, i get two messages. The first saying "General Error," and the second saying "Not enough memory."

Does anybody know why it does this? I open them in Quicktime and they play smoothly and everything...

Please give your full system specifications, what computer, what drives, what settings are on the media, what settings you're using in Final Cut, and finally what version of the software, of the OS, and of QuickTime you are using.

Dual 2GHz PowerMac G5 (powerPC)
2 GB DDR2 SDRAM
Mac OS X 10.4.11

Quicktime Pro 7.5.0
Final Cut Pro 5.0.4

The p2 footage was captured on a PC, then exported in Adobe Premiere CS3 in the form of a .mp4 file. When I bring up the movie inspector in quicktime, it says:
Format: H.264 Decoder, 720 x 406, Millions AAC, 44.100 KHz
FPS: 23.98
Data Size: 50.52 MB
Date Rate: 6336.62 kbits/s

Final Cut Settings:
Memory Usage
Application: 100%
Still Cache: 10%

Thumbnail Cache
Disk: 8192K
RAM: 512 K

Playback
RT: Safe
Video Quality: Dynamic
Frame Rate: Full
Pulldown Pattern: 2:3:2:3
Gamma Correction: Accurate
Frame Offset: 4

By saying "not enough memory," I'm assuming it means my computer isn't fast enough to handle the footage, which is strange because I have plenty of other p2 footage and 7D footage on the timeline and it plays back smoothly.

thanks
