FCP won't import P2 clips longer than 12 minutes

i've looked around and there are a few threads and discussions online about some clips not being imported by FCP, showing the red exclamation mark and the 'error: unknown' message in the log and transfer window. however, i can tie the errors i get to clip length.

i've tried to import these multiple times and still get the same result. each of the 7 clips that won't import are longer than 12 minutes. everything up to 12 minutes came in just fine.

does anyone have a FCP fix for this? do the latest updates solve this? i don't want to have to spend more money and go to a 3rd party solution (and no, the raylight demo won't work - it only works with clips shorter than 10 seconds).

using FCP 6.0, cards transferred to hard drive and importing using log and transfer function.

i know the info is there, i can play the clips back directly in QT by simply double clicking the .mxf file - just without the associated audio.

when you transfered the cards to hdd, you should have created a separate folder for each card and left the CONTENTS folder, and the lastclip.txt file intact in that folder, and not mixed or changed any of the files. You didn't say whether you did that or not. Not following that process can cause import problems.

is anyone else having this issue? i've scoured the web and can't find anything, except the 'remove duplicate frames' technique which i've tried without any change.

i have several interview segments from several subjects that i can't transfer in.

is the only real solution here raylight or P2log?

anybody?

and to summarize:

clips came straight off the card to hard drive using P2CMS.
file names and folder structure remain unchanged from original transfer to drive.
all other files, including from those card loads, transfer fine.
i can see the files in QT by double clicking the .mxf file. info is intact.

is anyone else having this issue?

No. In fact, I had interviews left on cards that were WAY longer that transferred fine. In other words, the cards were just copied to an external hd and then that external drive was hooked to my FCP computer (FCP6.0.4 though).

I suspect a HD issue in your case. What is the formatting on the drive? NTFS or FAT32?

yep. that's it. i'd known this a couple years ago and forgotten that was the case...

"If you plan to work with large files, such as digital video, the largest file you can write to a disk in MS DOS (a.k.a. FAT32) format is 4GB."
