FCP vs Edius?

I am trying to decide between Canopus Edius Broadcast and FCP as a new post-production solution since acquiring an HVX200. For 13 years I have been shooting BetaSP and posting on the Immix VideoCube and then the Accom Stratasphere. I have a legacy of many BetaSP tapes and also need to be able to handle miniDV, Hi8 and some 3/4" tapes. Editing is mainly documentary style, but rely heavily on keying, multi-layer compositing also. I think I can get the legacy formats into FCP using AJA Io, but thought Edius did the same without an extra box. In any case, I am looking forward to getting things done in HD on the HVX200 using P2 and Firestore. I'm still researching myself, but would like to hear some voices of experience before putting together a new edit station. Thanks for any advice.

find an editor with FCP and one with Edius and see what works best for you.

I moved to FCP 2 years ago and havent looked back at windows...but many here do prefer Edius or AVID. Depends on what workflow is best for YOU.

You can download a fully functional 30-day demo of Edius Broadcast V4.5 from the Canopus / Grass Valley website.

It's a breeze to work with and has excellent native support for P2 and mixed-format editing, but it is a bit light on creative effects and compositing. It also isn't fully keyframe-able.

I'm sure, you talk about the trial-version... don't you?

BTW It still needs the Broadcast-version for PAL 50p support I think... and I'd anyway prefer Liquid.... but that has no 50p support either in the actual version...
