FCP refuses to launch?

Chris -- some helpful maintenance -- first thing I'd do is remove the icon from the dock and restore from the applications folder.

Then --

When FCP Quits...

Do these in order and you might not have to do them all:

1) Trash Preferences FCPRescue - http://fcprescue.andersholck.com/

2) Repair Permissions - DiskUtility

3) Type this in your terminal window (without the quotes) and hit enter: "sudo update_prebinding -root / -force"

4) Unplug everything and wait

5) Create New User

Good luck,

Hey,

I am working with FCP 5.1.4 and it refuses to launch after two bounces. Any ideas?

Chris

You have to throw it harder to launch it properly... preferably from somewhere high enough that it doesn't bounce when it hits. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Hey Captain - what exactly is Step #3 doing?

Everytime I've had a problem - I've done steps #1 and #2, and that's always fixed it.
Just curious - for the day 1 & 2 don't work.

Thanks.

In OSX, applications use shared libraries to do stuff OS related (like draw windows, open files, etc). Shared libraries are libraries of routines out on the disk that the application requests when it needs them. In order to speed up application loading, the location of these routines are "pre-bound" to the application. The OS is supposed to notice when these prebindings get out of date, but they don't always. Forcing a prebinding recalculates all these and is what happens when you do an install and it says "Optimizing disk...".

make sense?

Patrick

What he said.

It honestly fixes a lot. Don't want to do it too often... but it does work when things get whonky.
