FCP low price

Hi All. Just want to say that I am NOT in any way employed by Apple.

for those of you considering Final Cut Pro as a way to edit HVX footage, there is a loophole and cheap way to get Final Cut Pro Studio Production bundle.

With the new final Cut Pro studio, they are stopping the sale of individual products motion, DVD studio pro, and soundtrack pro. If you have one of those products you can upgrade to the whole studio for a low price. $199 for motion 2, DVD studio Pro 4, or Soundtrack Pro.

The cost of Motion 2 and Soundtrack pro are $299, which means for $500 you get the entire production studio.

I just went to the apple store in my area and picked up Motion 2. They stopped accepting orders on their online store and they are not shipping any more boxes to retailers, so you won't have long to get the products.

Here is the link to Apple for the upgrade pricing of Final Cut Pro Studio:
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/topquestions.html

I think what he is saying is that you will end up with 2 copies of Motion but you will still end up saving money instead of just buying the stuido to begin with.

im actually in desperate need of buying the production bundle could you explain it a little bit more clearly, i'm a little lost

He's saying that you go buy motion or dvd studio pro for $299, THEN you upgrade to the whole suite (all applications) through apple, after 02/10/06 for only $199. So this way, you are getting the entire FCP studio suite for $500 in stead of for $1299 buuying it in one box.

Does anyone know how you can get around FCP5 only installing on one computer? I'll want to capture on my laptop when on the road and at home on the desktop...

To upgrade to the production studio universal binary from DVD studio pro 4, Motion 2, or Soundtrack pro, it will cost you $199.

Motion Costs $299.

Therefore, if you buy motion at $299, you can then upgrade to the production studio for $199 after February 1.:

Here is the text from the linked apple page:

How much does it cost to upgrade to Final Cut Studio?

To make it easy to move to Final Cut Studio, Apple is offering low-cost upgrades from retail versions of Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro 4, Motion 2, Soundtrack Pro, and Production Suite. When you take advantage of this offer, you’ll get the Universal version of Final Cut Studio when it becomes available.

How do I get the Final Cut Studio upgrade?

After February 1, 2006, visit Apple.com again for complete details on the upgrade program, including an order form. A Universal version of Final Cut Studio is expected to ship by March 31, 2006.

Application Price
Final Cut Pro 5 $99
DVD Studio Pro 4, Motion 2, or Soundtrack Pro $199
Final Cut Pro 4.X/HD or Production Suite $199
Final Cut Pro 1, 2, or 3 $699

Wait, I just read the link, are we sure that you don't already have to own FCP5 to upgrade for $199? The language is confusing...
and do we get the currrent studio package, or just the universal package? (post-rosetta)

Unplug the network cable.

The install of Final Cut Pro (or launching the application) will check to see if there are any other production suite programs running on the same subnet of the network.

If you turn off the network, or the other computer is off or not in use you can run the software.

If you have one copy of Final cut pro and install it on your desktop and your laptop, you are allowed to do that as long as you are not using them at the same time.

However, if you are editing on both computers, you are violating your license, but you can get the software to run on both computers if they cannot see each other.

I've done this to use compressor on one machine while I build the disk in DVD studio pro. Technically, yes, i shouldn't do that, but I'm not using two instances of the SAME application. Just the same suite of programs.

Ahhh i get it....but yes i agree w. evolvnyc, if i ONLY buy motion2 for 299, CAN i get Dvd Studio Pro, FCP5, and Soundtrack ALL FREE with the $199 upgrade?

Does Final Cut Studio run on the new Intel-based Mac computers?

The current version of Final Cut Studio is not supported on Intel-based Mac computers with Rosetta. A Universal version of Final Cut Studio will be available before the end of March 2006. Universal applications are designed to run flawlessly on both Intel- and PowerPC-based Mac computers.

If you notice, Final Cut Pro 5 upgrades to the production studio for $99

Do you mean just take the computer offline when I'm using it? That simple?

as for the upgrade deal:
ahh right... I guess there is such a thing as a half priced lunch... that, or FCP6 is going to be so amazing taht we're all going to regret buying the studio bundle 2 months from now... heh.

oh, and no, studio does not run on the intel macs, that's the March upgrade which will cost $49.

You may very well be right, that if there is a new production suite at NAB announced the upgrade price may even out for everyone and, you end up paying full price then.

Right, because, effectively, you'll be paying not just for ONE upgrade (FCP 5) but four upgrades (because the new fcp will probably only burn to idvd 5 and motion 3 will talk to it better etc...) Apple knows what they're doing, which is why my Visa is nearly full...

so real quick, so IF i but ONLY MOTION 2, i can upgrade for $199, and get FCP5, DVD STUDIO PRO, and Soundtrack Pro, even if Motion2 is the only thing i own? So i Don't need to own fcp5, and upgrade will cover it? (after feb. whatever)

That appears to be the case, yes. Also, I just realized that if we purchase the upgrade to Universal binaries in Feb and it doesn't ship until March, do you really think they'll offer a NEW upgrade at NAB in april. That seems a little strange to make people upgrade twice in just 3 months. Maybe then it will be a small upgrade, lik $49 or $99 for those with Universal Binaries.

I hope I'm not totally wrong on this front, over at appleinsider is where i first heard of this, and then went out and bought Motion 2.

hmmm what to do, i'm lost, i need the bundle within a month tho, im lost for what i sh ould do.. my academic discount makes it only 700 for me, but still 500 would be a lot better...

you can order the bundle if you have just motion 2 (which i snagged last night) starting feb 1st. the universal upgrade (to the intel-power pc version) is something different, fo r 49$ on march 31st... so you'll get fcp studio early Feb (I'm assuming)...

Can you still get Motion 2 or DVD Studio Pro 4 at retail? I was just going to upgrade my FCP 3 to get the studio but the cost is $699. I would rather get DVD Studio Pro 4 and do the FC Studio upgrade. It would be a $500 total cost and I get an extra version of DVD Studio Pro 4 and can sell my FCP on ebay. Sound right?

They have stopped selling individual applications online - apple store or B&H here I come!

ooops. Looks like Motion 2 is the way to go ($289 at B&H).
