Hi all -
First off, this isn't one of those "Panic I need to deliver by midnight!" deals; but some advice would be sweet!
Running FCP 4.5 on a dual G5 with 5GB. When I work with 24p footage from my DVX all is nice, runs great.
However, I have several projects for a client where I am comping suggested video styles for them in SD, and mixing their existing footage with stock clips (just the free preview clips for now - upon approval we'll purchase SD stock).
Here's my question: they've given me existing, edited videos, which I open in quicktime player to do an initial trim and to get the 'specs' on - and the supplied content varies, for example:
720x486 actual, 23.98 fps, 8-bit uncompressed
720x408 actual, 23.98, h.264
I've tried exporting these from QT player as DV/DVCPRO NTSC, 720x480 (or 720x486) with no audio, to drop on the timeline. I've tried every iteration I can think of with the DV output settings, progressive vs. interlaced, etc., but I still have to render... and render and render. I've played with my timeline settings, compression, etc., and spent hours searching the manual.
I can still do the work with all that dang rendering, but it really slows me down. Any advice on taking varying footage and converting it to something render-free in FCP? I have a real mishmash of clips here, I'd love to spend an hour converting everything up front for a smoother workflow. Thanks - MC
