Fcp final cut studio 5.1 upgrading to fcp 7 question

so i get a new camera the hmc 150 and now i need to upgrade my fcp from 5.1 to the fcp 7 it only $299 so im not crying to much....but my question is i am running tiger osx on my macbook pro 2.5-4gig ram-320 hd-...i have had no problems with my tiger osx...so do i really need to upgrade to snow leopard and then upgrade and install fcp 7.......should i just upgrade the leopard software over my tiger osx and upgrade the fcp7 over my fcp5.1...or should i scratch the whole drive and start from fresh and load leopard on a clean harddrive and do the same with fcp 7?..what would you do and have you already done this? thanks in advance....TIM HOLMES
 
My best practice is to clone my boot drive using Carbon Copy cloner or Super Duper

Then do a clean install of SL with a wipe of that drive.

Then install FCS3 and copy back your important files to the boot drive.
