FCP DVCPRO HD Rendering

This is a rather dumb question, but when you guys are editing a project in FCP that only consists of DVCPRO HD footage, do you render in ProRes or keep the timeline in DVCPRO HD? Does Log and Transfer convert to ProRes?

depends on the volume of footage. i shoot a music show and a, b cameras are dvcprohd and c camera is avchd. i just leave the timeline as dvcprohd and render the c cam clips as needed.

Agreed. If the majority of the shots are in DVCPRO HD, but with a few shots from DSLR I just convert them to DVCPRO HD using mpeg stream clip. I am not sure if this is the best way to do things but it works for me and the projects I work on (mostly just web videos).

does dvcpro hd handle multiple color correction renders (magic bullet) / twixtor tweaks etc etc without degrading ?

Or would Pro res be better if you are going hard on the filters and rendering

I am trying to figure out if my footage is getting degradation as i do alot of filter work - DVCPROHD renders so quickly and easily - its a joy to work with - but sometimes my final output looks soft

(that may be because i am getting used to the look of my gh1 which makes the HVX 202 footage look more "organic" / soft )

Why don't you take the same footage, render it in prores, put them both on a timeline, do a split screen, and post the results on vimeo? We'll tell you for sure then.
