FCP crashing

So I've finished my edit with a Canon 7D project and I've been applying effects. Suddenly, FCP starts crashing every time I try to work on it. I have one copy on a timeline with no effects and it works fine, but I gotta get these effects on there. Not sure if it's my Macbook Pro that's inadequate, or if FCP has some issues.

Are there any settings I can adjust for more stability, or am I stuck?

Yeah, I converted everything to Prores before importing. Due to the underpowered video card, the footage was automatically scaled down from 1920 X 1080 to 1280 X 1080. The Vid Rate is 23.98, DVCPRO HD 1080p30.

It seems like it's the effects that are giving me the problem because the same sequence without effects has no crash issues.

You are on a MacBook Pro with what as a dedicated external media drive?

What version of OS, QT, and FCP are you running?

How much RAM, free space on the media drive, etc? What sequence settings?

Help us out with some specifics.

I'm working off a Drobo, with 1.5 TB still available.

OS 10.5.8

Processor 2.33 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory 3GB 667 MGz DDR2 SDRAM

I'm currently working on a Prores 422 sequence. All footage shot with the 7D. I'm using Tiffen Dfx fllters and Magic Bullet.

I've decided to transfer the project to my computer at work. I'll just have to load the filters in there. Luckily I'll also be able to work with the full resolution instead of having it scaled down.

Still sucks that I can't get all the work done at home. I guess I'll just have to wait till March for a new Mac.
