FCP certification

Hey guys,

I have signed up to do the FCP7 course at a local University where i will train for 3 days and then do an exam on the forth day. If all goes well then i will come out with a FCP7 certification.

i Have been using FCP 5 and 6 for the last 4 years i think so i am pretty familiar with it and have had experiences with DV,HDV and HD etc.
I am just curious as to what the exam will involve...? I assume it is just to test my competence with the application(s) etc but it just seems a bit vague to do an exam in FCP...

I am getting the course subsidized by the university so i felt that it would do no harm to get the qualification.... but have other people found it a useful addition to their CV??

Many Thanks

Tom

Thanks for that!

Ironically, i would never call myself an editor...i work mainly with camera but i do edit most of our own stuff.
I do think it will make us stand out as a company though and hopefully make us look more legit and stand out from others.

If you can, it might be worth doing the course also if you can... from the test exam that i did, i found that although i have been using FCP for a few years and feel confident with it, there are many little things that stumped me, like names of certain tools etc even if i use them often but just don't know their exact names and so on.

I have a feeling i may learn quite a bit from the course that will help me speed up even the most basic of edits etc

I took the practice exam yesterday and scored 88%. 80% is passing. A lot of tricky/goofy questions were asked. "Name 3 ways to open Final Cut Pro." Who cares? I am taking the FCP 200 course in New York City in June and if I can, I will attempt the first certification test. Basically they expect you to know all of the tools and shortcuts. I do not, so hopefully I will learn them at this class.

And all the specific names for EVERYTHING. I know most of the shortcuts and use them in practice, but I started doing the questions at the end of the chapter, and its all those specific names that really get me.

I know what to do and how to do it, but to explain it in text is just horrible.

Yeah thats the thing for me... i think the certification is to try and help people get into the habit of using FCP the way that they intended.... using their terminology and techniques... :-/ People might know how to do something in practice... but its another things being able to explain what you did and how you did it haha

Agreed. If I want to cut a clip, and extend the beginning of the clip after it, I'll just cut the first one, and drag the handle of the next one to fill the empty space. Obviously, I should be using the ripple or roll or slide tool, but I don't see the point.

dude save your money and just get the apple training book then take the test, the total cost for that will be like $150 compared to the grand you'll drop for the class. The FCP Cert only matters if you want to teach the course yourself, employers look for work done, not certs.

Thats the thing, the course is being subsidized 90% by the university and some other organization... so it is costing me £85 for the lot! with a FCP7 handbook.
