Since I've been getting tons of private message and emails from you guys we are also starting a film workshop series locally in Florida. The first workshop is on Guerilla Marketing and Self-Distribution of your Film. Here is some info:

Independent filmmaking is alive and well, its independent distribution that is dead. At a time when "independent" films have to have a star and at least a couple million-dollar budget, how do you get your films seen? Forget Sundance, Miramax, and HBO. These places get hundreds of submissions a year. How do you get your films seen?

From getting free media coverage to myspace, to film festivals and selling your productions through the Internet and DVD. Alex Ferrari gives you a street-level instruction and real-world examples on how to promote, distribute, and sell your production. He challenges you to assess the real market for your film and provides examples of other filmmakers getting their work out, after their films were turned down by traditional distributors.

Independent producer/director Alex Ferrari’s award-winning short film “BROKEN” (http://www.whatisbroken.com) has done the following using his marketing and self distribution techniques:

- Screened in over 140 international film festivals (85% of them without paying a submission fee)
- Had his $8000 Mini-DV short film reviewed by world renowned film critic Roger Ebert
- Self distributed the film on DVD and sold over 5000 units (@ $19.95) using only his website
- Attracted over 3 million unique visitors to the films website (nearly all for free)
- Has been reviewed or mentioned in over 350 world-wide news outlets including film industry juggernauts:
(Ain’t It Cool News, JoBlo.com, Dark Horizons.com, Latino Review.com, Yahoo News, Movies Online.ca)
- Garnered interest from major Hollywood film studios
- Spawned a book on the film “The Art of BROKEN”

Alex will also will be featured in the widely released book “Making Short Films: The Complete Guide from Script to Screen” coming out April 8, 2008.

Honestly, I respect what you have done for the Indie movie scene but I really didn't like Broken. I thought the actors over acted and it all around looked really clean but stereotypical. Maybe it was because of the state I was in at the time but I really didn't get the story either. The story seemed to have too many strings attached to it from the get go. But i mean, If you wanna see it, $9.99 aint bad. At least they have a lot of special features.

I think I'll buy the special edition. It's gotten so much praise and acclaim, I find no reason not to.

cable - I haven't watched Broken yet, but from what I've heard it's absolutely fantastic. You mentioned that you may not have been in the best state when you watched it. Try re-watching it at a different time to sort of give us a better idea of if you still feel that way or not. Sometimes watching a movie more than once can have a whole different impact than the first time around.

Just a thought,

Kegan

EDIT: Just bought Broken through Alex's original link. Can't wait for it to get here and I'll give my critique then.

im trying to purchase it via your site, and when i click US/Canda purchase at the bottom of the page, it says 19.99.

where do i get the 10$ deal?

just bought the Guerrilla Marketing and Self-Distribution of Your Indie Film package. great stuff, alex. good insights. i'm weighing this against experience other indie filmmakers have shared.

if anyone else here has bought the download and would like to discuss some of Alex's techniques, please contact me. the future of indie is ours to define.

wow i just bought this DVD. what a bad movie. sorry but i just hated it. the actors, the actings, the story , the cinematography everything was just very basic. i respect them for doing it , getting the DVD out with a lot of special feature. it was great checking everything. i was let down by the fact they did not really explain the whole festivals promotions... for 9 bucks it'S great to see how guys like us can achieve a short film with passion. good job. but the movie was just very bad...
