FCP Audio

I'm sorry if this has been asked/discussed before, but there's quite a lot of posts and I didn't have the time to search through everything in order to find what I needed :violin:

My problem stems from having an underpowered powered computer (relatively, of course, I have a macbook pro late '08 model) and mp3 codecs. I'm trying to edit a piece to some music, but I find if I even shift the audio slightly, or try adjusting the audio track at all, it forces me to rerender the entire audio track. Are there any specific codecs to transcode to, techniques or settings I should be using in order to make working with LAME encoded MP3s a little easier?

Use iTunes and set your import settings (in preferences) to AIF then choose custom sample rate and set it to 48k

With your mp3's in itunes, highlight a song and in the advanced menu, select "make aif version" It will convert it and place it in your itunes music folder.

There are some other programs that are simpler, but basically, you want a 48khz AIF.
WAV files work too.

Just to clarify the why this is necessary: MP3 is a highly-compressed distribution/end-user codec. It is not an editing codec.

Audio for digital video editing runs at a native resolution of 16-bit, 48kHz and is AIFF (an uncompressed audio format).
