FCP Audio Export

I'm doing post production sound on a short film that was edited in FCP and I need to export the individual audio files for my PC. I'm using Sony Vegas Pro 9 and Adobe Audition.

Ideally I would want something like an omf that I could open up in Vegas, but I don't think I can get that.

Quick reply here because I don't have time to check it all out. Unfortunately, going back & forth between the FCP and the Vegas worlds is not easy...

If you export the project from FCP to Soundtrack Pro, I believe there's a way to export the audio timeline from Soundtrack Pro to AAF or OMF. As far as I know, however, there's no way to open an OMF in Vegas... but I'm still using Vegas 6 so maybe they changed that.

If your Vegas won't import an AAF or OMF either, I would solo each track in STP and render a WAV file of each track individually, to pull into Vegas. Just make sure to pull out the front and end of each audio clip on the STP timeline before you render to WAV so that you'll have 'handles' to work with in Vegas for crossfading and the like.

Best of luck! Be sure to post your workflow solution once you've figured it out.

Thanks tbob, I didn't even try to do the AAF/ OMF thing because it just seemed to good to be true so I didn't even bother. I did solo each track in FCP and rendered to wav which was a bit more lengthy but worked fine. Now there's just a little chopping needed.

This project is going to be a beast. It's due Sunday for a festival and the dialog is around -30bs!

I'm going to try to get an AFF or an OMF file working and if I can do it I'll post here (since there's not much out there on this subject)

You can export OMF straight from FCP. There is no need to take it through STP to do that.

Stretching the handles won't be an option if there are regions that are against each other. Because this is audio post, there's also no need for Vegas to enter into the equation. Audition is an audio editing application, and should be able to open an OMF.

I'll probably end up just doing audio in audition alone anyway but the problem is that audition actually doesn't read OMF files. Through searching on this subject apparently there are rumors that someone is writing code to do this through an xml file. I read that on another forum so now I'm going to try and track down who may or may not be writing this code; I'm sure it'll be like finding a needle in a haystack.

Anyway it would be awesome to be able to take audio from final cut to audition like it is with pro tools!
