Fcp 7!!!

It's about damn time. I sure hope motion is a lot more stable... I see they added DoF blur and enhanced 3D shadows :-)

Saw the preview at the site and it doesn't say much about snow Leopard integration and GPU decoding...

Wow! Finally! I think it's time to upgrade now...but wait, where's the native AVCHD feature? Am I missing something? According to the specs...AVCHD editing support using Apple ProRes. What do u guys think about this? Is it worth upgrading if you have AVCHD camera? Thanks!

Release date?

Hi, I just checked the online apple store and it says it ships within 24 hours so I assume it's available now and it's cheaper.

Full version-$999.00

Upgrade from prior versions of FCS, Production Suite, or Final Cut Pro-$299.00

Sweeeeeeeet!!!

Funny thing is it does have native AVCINTRA, which is a much more intensive form of AVC compression...
AVC-Intra is a much higher quality form of compression but it is way, way, way easier on the CPU to process. Because it's intra-frame. That makes the file sizes a lot larger (100mbps vs. 21mbps). AVCHD is much more highly compressed, and it is the complexity of the compression that makes it harder on the CPU to handle.

Sounds like it works better in someway with avchd

Final Cut Pro 7 makes it easy to work with the latest file-based devices from Panasonic, Sony, JVC, and Canon. Use the Log and Transfer function in Final Cut Pro to ingest Panasonic AVC-Intra and DVCPRO HD from P2 cards, Sony XDCAM EX, and AVCHD. Or use Sony’s free XDCAM Transfer software to ingest XDCAM, 18-, 25-, and 35-Mbps XDCAM HD, and XDCAM HD 422 media.

I noticed that Blu-ray disc burning, with menus, is now supported in Compressor, which is nice (finally). But it's not supported in DVDSP, which was evidently not upgraded at all (again). It's still at V4, the same as it was in FCS 1, which was...I forget how many years ago. So we get Blu-ray burning (yay) but probably with some very stripped down iDVD style feature set (boo). Meanwhile, DVDSP can still burn HDDVDs (but who cares).

So...they could add it into Compressor just fine, but not DVDSP, even though the latter was already HDTV capable, so we still lack all the cool pro features for Blu-ray burning that were already there in DVDSP...

WTF?

Yes, no update to DVD SP at all, again!

Overall, not a lot of "wow" features, just incremental stuff. I've ordered it mainly for the new Motion features (3D shadows, reflections, DOF simulation, etc.).

I was hoping they'd update the Color UI and make it more inline with the rest of the suite, but alas, that's too much to ask in 2 years it seems...

I'll order the upgrade too, which is nice if not earth-shattering overall, and it's cool that it's down $100 from last time, but I'm *extremely* disappointed with the DVDSP situation.

I already ordered it. My biggest reason was changes in Color. I can appreciate not having to simplify the timeline (sequence) to be able to go back and forth between Color and FCP. Other features are a welcome improvement.

Now that you pointed out the lack of BlueRay in DVDSP I wish it was there. I wonder if the templates can be edited in DVDSP and exported for Compressor to use.

I also noticed that the LiveType app has disappeared, but FCS still installs LiveFonts. Looks like it got rolled into one of the other apps, but it doesn't say which.

FCP 7 looks pretty much the same GUI wise. Doesn't seem like it's been re-written in Cocoa, may still be a Carbon based life form..??? Not that I know how that all works, I just know that Cocoa is 64bit, and Carbon is only 32bit. Maybe it's been "transcoded" or "translated" to Cocoa.

But 2 years for this seems like such a let-down unless there is hidden speed potential not yet being announced for Snow Leopard. But I expected a bit more of iMovie / QuickTime X GUI styling. This just doesn't quite have that New Car Smell I was hoping for. You know, to make you feel like it's "All New and Improved!!"

Of course I know that it's the function over form/styling when it comes to Pro Apps, but still....

LiveType was part of FCS2. I just installed a brand new copy of it for a client a few months ago, and it was in there.
