FCP 7 Upgrade from FCP on Different Computer

I've had FCP 4.5 on my powermac G4 for about 6 years now. It never really bothered me because I was editing only DV and never needed anything else. Now however I have a new HPX170 and need software with DVCPROHD support AND a computer than can run it (My MacBook Pro).

Is there a way I can purchase the upgrade without having to move FCP 4.5 over to my MacBook pro first? Or do I only need the CD key from FCP 4.5 and not the actual software.

Please let me know what is the best way to do this. I have a big project I'm working on right now and so far I'm limited to the computers at my school which are great, but not portable and unrestricted.

Thanks,
Connor

If you have a valid upgrade to FCS3, then you will need the serial number for FCP 4.5 and then new serial number.

When you install FCS3, it will ask for the new serial number, and then the previous serial number.

But you don't need to install FCP 4.5 first on your MBP inasmuch as it is a non Intel version and will not install.

Right. No previous version required. Just a valid previous version's serial number and the upgrade's number. Note that you (or anyone else) won't be able to run more than one copy of the same authorized version at a time on two computers if they're connected to the internet. Apple will detect the conflict and prevent the second copy from launching. Any component of FCS will trigger that limitation to the entire suite.
