Fcp 6

Anyone expecting anything BIG in the much rumoured arrival of FCP 6 at NAB this year?

No... other than 5.1 support -- I'm sure anything else they add will be overkill for me.

Though I continue to surprise even myself for what I end up using.

it'd be nice if they integrated final touch CC into FCP6... but maybe they'll put that into phenomenon.

Really!

Really!

The one thing that Apple HAS to add is some sort of media management the current offering is appalling!

CC could also do with being looked at.

All IMHO of course :)

Motion Pro...

Motion Pro...

It'll be interesting to see if Phenomenon turns in to some form of Motion i.e Motion Pro

Indy....

I am expecting full Blue Laser Support for both HD DVD (which already has red laser support) and Blu-Ray through DVD Studio Pro. I also agree with the Capt. that 5.1 surround is a must. Maybe even 7.1?

I also think that FCP will finally have something similar to an "Open Timeline" like the Avid systems.

I get the feeling Apple might do native support, but it means dropping their whole Quicktime Files and that means a lot of work on the programmers. My guess is still that an Open Timline will exist, but all files must be in a FCP Codec first.

Can someone enlighten me to Open Timeline?

Thanks

Different video resolutions playing on the same timeline without rendering. I.E. DV footage cutting to uncompressed cutting to 1080. Etc.

That and good media management keep me in the Avid camp most of the time, but the more I work with FCP the more I grow to like it.

It is being written using Motion's source code as a base...but it will definitely be seen as a the next great shake upgrade.

No nonsense 24p support right out the gate (as is, it's 24pa). In general, even though I'm a mac and FCP user, I must say Vegas has got a lot right. If FCP ever matched Vegas in sound editing, that would be a start. I'm different from folks here - the more I use FCP, the more annoyed I get (instead of liking it more). I don't understand why FCP is the runner up to Avid instead of Vegas... prolly Sony screwing things up again.

Hoping Praying Begging For Pleading For native MXF support for the HVX!

I'm fine with how things are. I wouldn't want to go editing my master footage directly. I'd want to have that backed up safe somewhere...and edit CAPTURE files. Importing takes as long as capturing, so I don't see the problem here.

Gimme the Open Timeline...I can see the advantage of that. Gimme a fixed Media Manager...gimme better color correction options.

If Vegas is so good, why haven't I seen it in any post/production house for use in editing broadcast programming? Just curious...I have no clue about vegas. As for the audio editing capabilities, that is why there is ProTools, Digital Performer, Logic, Soundtrack Pro...etc.

See how it could be, then see how it is, and you'll see the difference. :)

In any case, every other editor can do it, so that leaves FCP unable to do something that everyone else can. Why not give us the option? You don't have to use it if you don't want to, but that doesn't mean everyone else wants to work the same way you do. So why not have the choice?

You are working with the original video and audio you shot, you're just losing the original MXF file header and metadata as they are stripped to make way for the QuickTime header at the heart of FCP's functionality. Yes it would be nice to have the MXF's in there directly but I don't see it as a dealbreaker for most folks. If you've done an FCP edit recently and found yourself missing that metadata from the camera then you're a candidate to look elsewhere. Otherwise in terms of sound and picture quality you're not losing a bit.

Didn't it take Raylight to push MXF into Premiere and Vegas in the first place? Perhaps they could be encouraged to do a similar move on the Mac side if enough HVX owners ask for it.
