FCP 6 in same partition as FCP X

Before I download the trial version of FCP X and potentially mess up the files on my new iMac...

I read the sticky and understand the Apple Support article: HT4722 regarding the installation of FCP X on the same partition as Final Cut Studio (2009).

Does anyone know if this procedure also works with the older FCS 2? (FCP 6.0.6, et al)

BTW: Migration Assistant successfully facilitated the move from an MBP OS 10.4.11 to an iMac 27" 3.4ghz OS X Lion. FCP 6 seems to run just fine so far (albeit not at 64bit). All the FCS 2 apps booted successfully, except for Cinema Tools. Most of my critical apps made the jump as well: Raylight, Quicktime 7 Pro, et al.

Thanks for your assistance.

Why use Migration Assistant to move the pro apps?

Just install them from the fresh discs.

I've seen many, many reports of issues associated with MA and the pro apps here and elsewhere.

Thanks David,

Apparently, there is an issue with installing FCS 2 from disk onto the new Lion OS, so the recommended workaround is to move the apps from 10.4.11 using MA. Seems to work with the exception of Cinema Tools.

My big decision is around loading FCP X in the same partition as FCS 2. The sticky above points to Apple's best practices directions for loading FCP X in the same drive as Final Cut Studio 2009. It does not refer to FCS 2.

I wouldn't expect FCS2 to be very stable with Lion. Some of the underlying system resources have changed. Some have been replaced by newer resources. FCS2 is so old that the developers could not have anticipated this.

I'm running FCP 7 and FCP X on one partition and have migrated FCP 7 through at least 4 computers- it's zero hassle if your user is all setup correctly and you aren't doing anything really odd with your config.

Bit the bullet and downloaded the FCP X. It did not automatically move the FCS2 to it's own Final Cut X folder in the Applications folder like the Apple doc said it would. Apparently, the FCP X install routine only deals with FCP 7 and not FCP 6. None the less, both the FCP X and FCP 6 apps seem to run just fine in the same Applications folder. I did not download the new Compressor 4, so FCP X does not find it and does not seem to recognize the existence of Compressor 3.05 as FCP 6 does. I have not yet run FCP X and 6.6 at the same time.

Read my comments regarding the new iMac using FCP X. The new 64 bit app does quite well running on the iMac 3.4ghz i7 quad core. It can really use the processors and ram, vs. the 32 bit FCP 6.
