FCE4 crashes during log & transfer

For all my AVCHD files that my SONY HDR-SR5 handycam shot, the only way that I could get footage off the cam without quality loss was 'log & transfer' with FCE4. None of the other programs could extract my footage since it was AVCHD.

So, since AVCHD files were easily transfered from my SR5, I bought the GH1 with no second thoughts about AVCHD transfering to FCE. The problem comes when I connect the GH1 via USB to my iMAC. when I open FCE4 and 'log & transfer' videos, All the videos show up but play rather laggy. So I don't even bother reviewing the footage in FCE's log and transfer, BUT when I start the transfer, FCE ALWAY crashes.

Any ideas? It still works with my SR5 AVCHD footage.

Try running log and transfer after you copy the PRIVATE folder over to your computer, rather than trying to copy right off the camera through USB. You could potentially be running into any number of problems trying to do that, speed, permissions, etc.

If that doesn't work can you post a crash log? Open up the program "Console" (Applications/Utilities/Console.app) and post what happened when FCE4 crashed.

it still crashed.

here is all the console things from FCE

Try trashing (and emptying the trash) your Final Cut Express preferences file, Users/Your User/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro(express) User Data/Final Cut Express 4.0 Preferences ( restarting the machine (for good measure), and restarting the program. Sorry it took me sooo long to reply...I hope this helps...it's a general fix but to me this looks like it could be a preferences problem.

Obviously the other option is a reinstall of FCE, or maybe even an OS reinstall.

Do you have Perian installed? I had it installed and because of it a bunch of times I tried to log and transfer HMC150 footage with FCP it would crash. After I uninstalled it I had no problems. If you have it installed just go to System Preferences>Perian>Uninstall Perian.

For all my AVCHD files that my SONY HDR-SR5 handycam shot, the only way that I could get footage off the cam without quality loss was 'log & transfer' with FCE4. None of the other programs could extract my footage since it was AVCHD.

Any ideas? It still works with my SR5 AVCHD footage.

Don't know what that means. I use Log&Transfer for the GH1, and have clips that are AVCHD 1080i, 720p, and also 720p (Motion JPEG, before I realized that the AVCHD had the 720 60p option...).

All transfered without problems. Of coures FCE only has the 60i timelines... but the resulting AIC are ok...

I think I used Easy Setup to select a AIC 1080i timeline... I'll have to check.
