FCE Export File I/O Error

I've tried exporting a wedding to my external hard drive 7 or 8 times and keep ending up with errors. Now it won't even begin to export and gives me a file I/O error. Anybody know what this means? I'm just exporting as quicktime movie since I'm just burning it in iDVD afterwards. Any suggestions or other export settings I should try?

How is the drive formatted, OS extended or FAT32?

How much disc space remains?

Are you using any strange symbols like a "/" in the name or path?

Can you export to the boot drive?

Is it bigger than 4gb? I couldn't backup a file that big because the formatting of the hd (FAT32) won't allow it.

Glad it worked out.

But it's always helpful to let all of us know what you did to correct it.

Will help others with the same issue.

Since I still needed all the stuff from my original external HD and my boot drive was nearly full, I bought a separate external and formatted it for my Mac. The other external I was using is still FAT32, and I think it just didn't like me trying to export a 38gb file. Anyway, the export to the new drive worked fine.

Now I'm going to back up my other drive and reformat it to work better with my Mac.
