"Bus boy making dollar fifty an hour really give a **** you're stealing from the boss?"[/quote]

LOL Yeah!

Mr. Brown : Then one day she meets this John Holmes motherfucker and it's like, whoa baby, I mean this cat is like Charles Bronson in the Great Escape, he's digging tunnels. Now, she's gettin' the serious dick action and she's feeling something she ain't felt since forever. Pain. Pain. It hurts her. It shouldn't hurt her, you know her pussy should be Bubble Yum by now, but when this cat ****s her it hurts. It hurts just like it did the first time. You see the pain is reminding a **** machine what it once was like to be a virgin. Hence, "Like a virgin."

Mr. Pink : I'm very sorry the government taxes their tips, that's ****ed up. That ain't my fault. It would seem to me that waitresses are one of the many groups the government ****s in the ass on a regular basis. Look, if you ask me to sign something that says the government shouldn't do that, I'll sign it, put it to a vote, I'll vote for it, but what I won't do is play ball. And as for this non-college bullshit I got two words for that: learn to ****in' type, 'cause if you're expecting me to help out with the rent you're in for a big ****in' surprise.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

;D Reservoir Dogs is screening at a local theatre this monday - I'm DEFINITELY catching that!

"He don't tip."

"Whaddaya mean he don't tip?"

"He doesnt believe in it."

"Shut up. Whaddaya mean you don't believe in it?"

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

oh yeah, of course, Reservoir Dogs is a classic opener.

Amelie! that opening bit was very very clever....even the title sequence was wonderfull...how they would have her doing things that reflected who evers title was on the screen at that moment. like if the costumers title was up she would be doing something with her outfit like adding cherry earrings....or if it was the special effects guy she would be doing a magic trick...all very clever...he did te same thing with the title sequence for delicatessen.

Full Metal Jacket! the drill srgt scene is rad!

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

In no particular order:

APOCALYPSE NOW! -- if you're doing surreal, do it like this.

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK -- probably the best intro to a character. Not only is it done super duper awesomely, but look at what it tells you. First you find out this guy is dangerous when he whips the gun out of the guy's hand. Then you see evidence of another adventurer who has died looking for what Jones is looking for (and Jones proceeds anyway). Then you see his expertise as he outwits the booby traps. Then a whammy - the frenchman calls him "Dr. Jones." This guy is a doctor! But a doctor of what? Then you get an intro to Indiana Jones's lot in life - to have his treasure taken away from him in the end. If you're not intrigued after all that, check your pulse.

STAR WARS - The actors in Star Wars thought the movie was going to be awful. That's because they hadn't seen the opening shot. What Lucas taught me was that once you've established a cool world, you have license to do anything for a while. So after the famous opening battle scenes, the story takes us down to a small town, where for a long while the play unfolds like a seventies drama. The reason it works is that, though Ben and Luke are just chillin' in a cave, in the back of our minds there are spaceships flying around above their heads. That's smart filmmaking.

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS - The desert sequence. Like Star Wars, it gives the film license to just chill out for a while and slowly build some drama.

THE MATRIX - Actually the first act is pretty close to perfect. It could be considered a really long cold open.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST

SCHINDLER'S LIST - The scene that introduces Oskar Schindler is a masterpiece. It tells you everything about this man.

RESERVOIR DOGS - Now it's not as cutting-edge, but at the time, everyone was blown away. A bunch of hard guys discussing Madonna and the virtues of tipping. PULP FICTION's opening is also great.

2001 - The sequence with the apes.

CONTACT - The long, long pullback, all the way to infinity.

E.T. - One curious little alien gets lost. Cut to a family and one lost little boy. Who isn't invested in the story at that point?

FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF - When he sat up in bed and said "they bought it", I cheered, along with every teenager in America.

AMADEUS - Wonderful, intriguing, and surprising intro.

GOODFELLAS - Great ironic, fascinating intro.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

Well, I'm sticking to Once Upon a Time in the West... BUT, PT Anderson deserves some kudos for the opening in Magnolia, it was fantastic. As a reminder it walked us through 'matter of chance' scenarios.

Oh, and great catch with Apocalypse, totally slipped my mind, I should be shot for that.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

Oh! se7en has a great intro. I love those really dicey cuts, lots of close ups and fast music.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

I don't have an all time favorite, but I have ones that I remember more then others...for example, "The Killer" and I can't remember if the awesome steadicam shot in Bonfire of the Vanities was in the beginning or not...but that one too.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

"full metal jacket" has one of the funniest openings i've ever seen.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

My favorite opening would have to be "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and I have a great story about it too.

I saw it in the theaters and there was a woman watching it in front of me. About 1 minute after the opening sequence ends her husband sits down next to her with 2 bags of popcorn, turns to his wife and says, "So, what did I miss." All of us within ear shot including the woman burst out laughing (what an opening to miss, how do you even begin to describe it).

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

Gladiator, I loved the transition from the hand gliding over the leaves, to the war scene.

Any Spielberg intro also

oh and the first Ghostbusters, that library scene rocked

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

Nice calls! I forgot how cool Ghostbusters is.

THREE KINGS has a fun opening with the whole introductoin of characters and music. From Mark shooting the Iraqi dude to George brawling with the young reporter in the comm van. Hilarious.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

Kill Bill Vol 1 is the only opening scene that has startled me since I was a kid, I had go back and watch it three or four times - jumped every time. :o
As for a moive that gave me "goose bumps" I saw some IMAX film (non 3D) at hampton roads back in '92, full shot from shuttle of the earth. Breath taking really felt like I was on the shuttle.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

28 Days Later

Mostly because me and my friends still walk around parties, bars and shows screaming...

"Infected wif watt!!!"
"In..fec..ted wif watt!!!"
(Heavy accent, we're quite good at it now. No offense to real english speakers, this is my best phonetic spelling of how we say it...)

And someone will 99% of the time scream...
"Rage"

And then one (or 2 of us) we'll reply...
"Open the f****** cages!"

I know, we probably all need to get lives but it's fun  ;D
