Hey; Everybody

What are your favourite movie opening scenes?

Off the top of my head here are some of mine;

BLADE (Bloodbath club scene)

XMEN 2 (Whitehouse Nightcrawler scene)

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

Well, as lame as the rest of the movie is, the first ten minutes of Phantom Menace -- right up to where Qui-Gon and Obi Wan ran like little girls in the face of shielded droids -- was pretty seriously kick-ass. Too bad the rest of the movie chumped it out.

Also, the opening of WarGames.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

The first scene of Fight Club is always a favorite.

Oh Brother's is hilarious.

My number one favorite of all time has to be the First 5 minutes of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

I've always loved the opening of Desperado. When Buscemi is telling the story of the biggest mexican, etc.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

The Trinity chase in the original Matrix is pretty cool too.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

The convenience store sequence where we meet the Gecko Brothers in "From Dusk to Dawn", with Michael Parks giving an Oscar worthy performance right before getting his head blown off, then having Clooney and Tarantino bickering as they walk out to their car whilest the building behind them blows up. Now that's cinema!

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

WARGAMES was a cool intro!

Dawn of the Dead 04

Opening sequence just kicks major tail and then opening titles with CASH singing WHEN THE MAN COMES AROUND. Awesome.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

The beginning of Jaws... with those crazy 70s kids and their beach party and the girl getting dragged around the water... I LOVE that scene...

Another great one is Jurassic Park's... with the cage coming through the trees and then the guy getting caught in between the cages... "SHOOOOT HEERRRR!!! SHOOOOOTTT HEERRR!!!" and he looks the raptor in the eye... awesome...

Spielburg in general makes amazing opening sequences...

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

For me the absolute chef d'oeuvre is : Touch of Evil from Orson Welles - 1958.
This plan sequence is really incredible.

A master piece IMHO.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

'Once Upon a Time in the West' &
'Man Bites Dog'

brilliant I say...brilliant!

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

how about "Saving Private Ryan" all 30 minutes of it. heheh :)

Also. Goodfellas starts great too.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

Oh yeah, saving private ryan's is amazing... although it doesn't get to the good stuff for awhile...

I saw this movie at the Toronto international film festival called breaking news... one of the best intros to any movie... they held a shot for over 7 minutes... the shot started with a moving crane with credits, then moved to action in the story happening, then into an action sequence with an awesome gun fight and finally 7 minutes into this awesome action sequence there was an explosion and it finally cut... the audience applauded... it was cool...

ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST.
I still get goose bumps when I watch the opening scene.

Re: Favourite Movie Opening Scene

RESERVOIR DOGS

Just the dialog alone; I knew I was in for a treat after that coffee shop scene.
