Favorite monster

off all time in movies.

Mine has always been...

1/ The Creature from the Black lagoon.

2/ The Alien creature. From the Alien/s franchise.

Jeez. I can't think of any. I suppose Frankenstein was the first one, ofcourse.

What's your fave?

I can't really think of too many good ones. I mean, barring dracula, the wolfman, godzilla, the mummy, ehmmm...

I mean really, you guys don't have a favorite monster these days?

I like Neville Page's concepts. He did a few for Avatar, Star Trek, the Cloverfield monster, Piranha 3D, and a bunch of other shi*. One of his new ones is 808 or something?

Just saying, yeah , I think the classic monsters I think are gone.
Freddie Kruger was cool. A classic in his own right.

Boy, it's getting tougher now to come up with a classic now , isn't it?

There's no more Frankensteins, Wolfmans, Vampires, Zombies, Muumy's, and what have you.

The War of the Worlds, the new version was kind of cool though.
So, who knows?

My favorite "modern" movie monster is the T-1000 from Terminator 2.

My favorite "classic" movie monster is...

It is hard, scratch that, nearly impossible to pick one favorite. Though I suppose if I had to do so, then I choose H.R. Giger's ALIEN. I find it to be both beautiful and horrific, even after seeing the films so many times. Another thing is that the Alien films are what really got me interested in cinema beyond just watching films for entertainment.

Some other favorites:

Cinematic Monsters
- The Thing
- Predator
- The Lovecraftian beasts from The Mist
- Werewolves from Dog Soldiers
- Brundle-fly from Cronenberg's The Fly remake (one of the all time great tragic monsters)
- The Sarlaac from Return of the Jedi (it would really suck to be slowly digested for thousands of years)
- That gigantic asteroid-worm that Han Solo accidentally lands the Millennium Falcon inside of in The Empire Strikes Back

Monsters From Literature
- Grendel from the classic poem Beowulf (and its recent sci-fi reworking in the Morwen alien from the film Outlander)
- Smaug from The Hobbit
- The Martians from the original War of the Worlds
- The Arachnids (Bugs) from Starship Troopers

Videogame Monsters
- The Elites and Hunters from Halo
- The Locust Horde from Gears of War (some truly epic-sized beasts try to kill you in these games)
- Mass Effect's Rachni Queen

I can't really think of the 'Alien' or 'Predator' franchise creatures as 'monsters.' They're just products of different evolutionary pathways than ours...

...'real' monsters...

Dr. Frankenstein's Creature
Imhotep (the Mummy)
Freddy Krueger
The Joker (The Dark Knight)
Amon Goeth (Schindler's List)
Nosferatu (Nosferatu, Shadow of the Vampire)
The Morlock King (The Time Machine)
Jason (Friday the 13th ad infinitum, ad nauseum)
Don Logan (Sexy Beast)
Hannibal Lecter (The Silence of the Lambs)
The Robot (Saturn 3)
Model T-101 Infiltrator (The Terminator)
Brundlefly (The Fly)
Richie Cusack (A History of Violence)
The Blob (The Blob)
Body-Snatcher Pod People (AAAEEEEEEIIIIIAAAAGGGHHH!)

You don't consider the Alien to be a monster, even though that very reference is a plot point in Aliens (via Newt's perspective)...
-yet-
You do consider:
The Joker (The Dark Knight)
Amon Goeth (Schindler's List)
Don Logan (Sexy Beast)
Hannibal Lecter (The Silence of the Lambs))
Richie Cusack (A History of Violence)
to be monsters, not villains. Interesting

Yeah. I find animals in human bodies more monstrous that aliens in alien bodies. Just my perspective, I guess; the most dangerous monsters are the ones not immediately identifiable.

I mean, sure, I can see that the Alien fulfills the role of the monster in what is basically a monster movie. But I don't tend to think of the creature itself as monstrous.

*EDIT*
I think I might add Miles Quaritch (Avatar) to the list...like Frankenstein's Creature he's not only frightening but pathetic.

Fair enough.
I see what you're gettin' at; an Alien just does what an Alien does...
But, couldn't you say the same for a werewolf or the blob or.........

The Werewolf is an unnatural corruption of the human form - which is not to say I'd discount him as a monster...and the Blob is man-made (at least, in the more recent version of the film; the original B&W movie never alludes to its real origin, but considering the times I guess had it been in some way man-made its origins would have certainly been...Russian. Like virtually every other monster of the period it was a metaphor for Communism...)
